Only fatal flaw I see here is swap pelech and ekblad with nurse and doughty. No way nurse and doughty play over pelech and ekblad, like 0% chance
TBH Aside from putting out Makar and McDavid out for a few extra shifts during a few key moments of the games I don't see a big distinction between lines. Canada is at its best when we roll over other teams with our depth

My guess:

Jonathan Huberdeau - Connor McDavid - Nathan MacKinnon
Brad Marchand - Sidney Crosby - Patrice Bergeron
Steven Stamkos - Brayden Point - Mark Stone
Ryan O'Reilly - John Tavares - Mitch Marner
* Sean Couturier
* Mat Barzal / Mark Scheifele / Andrew Mangiapane / PL Dubois

Shea Theodore - Alex Pietrangelo
Devon Toews - Cale Makar
Adam Pelech - Drew Doughty
* Aaron Ekblad / Dougie Hamilton
* Thomas Chabot / Morgan Rielly

Really not sure about goalies. Italics are the battles imo.

I like that forward group.

MacKinnon with McDavid does make a lot of sense, and I like the way you're able to pair teammates with each other.

2 things:

1. I'd put O'Reilly at center on that 4th line and switch Tavares to the wing.

2. I know the wings are opposite but I would try to get Stone up with McDavid and Mackinnon as imo he'd be the perfect defensive and possesion partner for them, while Huberdeau could take the Kucherov role with Point and Stamkos (Stamkos could flip to the RW). Maybe that means MacKinnon playing more of the center role with McDavid more of a LW and Stone the RW.

Marchand - Crosby - Bergeron

Couturier

Tough to leave Barzal off. No room for him though as of December 2nd. Couturier defensive play is just too valuable to leave him off. I don’t think he has ever played wing before.

It's not on big ice. I would guess that Tavares is very much a bubble guy, but he's scoring and some bubble guys have disappointed. As a depth scoring LW he's fine but replaceable.

If it is on NHL sized ice - and I wasn't sure if it was or not - then that benefits Tavares and he becomes more of an asset. And a guy with a better chance to make the team.

That the tournament will be played on NHL sized ice certainly helps Tavares. At this moment he's third in scoring among Canadians while some of the other bubble guys have disappointed. He has a good argument to be on the team as a depth scorer as things stand right now. We'll see where things stand in January I guess.

Stamkos and Tavares have likely played their way onto the roster with their great performance this season. Kudos to them, they were likely on the bubble or on the outside looking in as recent as last season.

McDavid, MacKinnon, Crosby, Bergeron, O'Reilly, Stone, Huberdeau, Stamkos, Marchand, Marner, Point are IMO locks. So 3 spots are up for grabs. IMO Tavares is in, he is in really high form. Couturier also will make it. So IMO the last 1 spot is up for grabs.

Doughty, Theodore, Pietrangelo, Ekblad, Hamilton and Makar are locks. Two other spots are up for grabs.

If Price can play the goalies will be Price, Fleury, Hart. If he can't it's tricky.

JT would be perfect as 4C with two other defensively sound forwards. Stone - Tavares - Couturier would be as close to a perfect 4th line as you can get.

Marchand is a lock.

You can't leave off the 3rd highest Canadian point-getter from the last 5 years.

For anyone concerned about 34 yr old price leading Canada to gold , should be. In 1998, 34 yr old Roy didn’t. In 2002, Joseph 35 started game 1 got shelled by Sweden and 30 yr old brodeur took over. In 2006 now 34 yr old brodeur didn’t even medal. In 2010 38 yr brodeur started the tournament, but 31 yr old luongo took over. In 2014 26 yr old price lead Canada to gold.

in summary, all our starting goalies in the past 5 olympics , any goalie starting for Canada over the age of 31 has not lead Canada to gold.
Not my opinion, just pure plain facts.

be concerned my friends

Brodeur in 2006 and especially Roy in 1998 were not the problem. The scary thing with Price is that we have no idea where his game is right now, not that he happens to be 34. If Canada could have 1998 Roy or 2006 Brodeur right now that would be a huge boost to the team.

My forward group:

Huberdeau McDavid Stone
Marchand Mackinnon Bergeron
Tavares Barzal Marner
Mangiapane Crosby Point

Extras: Kyrou, Stamkos

You've still got Fleury and perhaps Binnington. I mean, we've got the reigning Vezina winner and possibly a goalie who carried his team to an improbable Cup final in 2021. The thing that is tricky is that this is not 2002 anymore. When Roy backed out it didn't matter, you had Brodeur, Joseph and Belfour and had to leave out a guy like Sean Burke who was having a career resurgence.

In 1998 Roy, Brodeur and Joseph were there. Belfour was left at home, Fuhr was too, you could have even still picked Potvin or even Osgood at that time as a 3rd stringer. There was plenty of depth. For whatever reason Canada in 2022 doesn't have that depth right now. But if all of our goalies are healthy, we are just fine.

Thé défense has rounded out really nicely, ideally Theodore would be having a better season but apart from that everyone is playing really well

I wanted to put Hamilton in the lineup, but I wasn't sure who to take out. I think they'll stay loyal to Doughty and play him, and Toews and Makar have been playing fantastic lately.
