People will blame JT on that play, but that was on the other players who were not covering at all... I mean, its effing OT... where the fck are the D going?

So situationally unaware... they are literally dumb f***s.

What happened to this guy? Ever since we gave him the C he’s been getting worse and worse. The injury excuse doesn’t fly anymore so what’s the deal? Extremely concerning to see him moving like a slug out there. At times it almost looked like he couldn’t keep up with the pace of the play.

47g 88p +19 was not worth 11m last season?

Honestly, no.

11 mill to me is a consistent superstar.

after the playoffs 2 years ago I am surprised the leafs gave either of Matthews and Marner winner elite money too. I guess I view things differently. Managing the cap is the most important thing about being a consistent winner. Leafs have done an awful job so far

I thought he had a good game and drove a lot of opportunities other than that last play.

His puck management is brutal. We all knew he was slow but he is brutal at passing sometimes. He had a good overtime but his turnover is part of what cost us in the end.

It's a non issue if Rielly isn't randomly skating in to the corner

Shame about that turnover .. He was just trying to get a puck to the net. It was a strong game otherwise.

That being said he's also paid to lead this team .. Big F in that department last night.

JT was very good on the ice for us last night, despite the turnover costing us in OT. He's been having a ton of great chances and is getting stonewalled by ridiculous Columbus goaltending.

But where the hell is this team's leadership? JT or the rest of 'em, the whole team wilted the minute they dropped the puck after the 3-0 goal and didn't find their legs until the tie. Captain? Alternates? Coach? Anybody care to step up and get the team fired up to stem the bleeding. This team has been its own biggest enemy for YEARS and their biggest weakness is still right between their ears. Where's the damn leadership?

Spend his prime year at NYI and then came here to become to the most richest stay at home dad ever.

He was already bad skater and now he's old man who have new born kids at home. Good for him, bad for Leafs. He is already shelf of his best, wait 1-2 years and you have huge dump in your hands. Sponsored by Dubler Dubas.

If Tavares is indeed a quiet, "lead by example" type guy, I don't think it's the right kind of leadership for this group. They seem to consistently need a kick in the pants. Sort of the "Mike Babcock Project."

Didn't exactly play out well.

Tavares still thinks he is a skilled player with the puck. He pulls off a fancy move like 1 out of 50 times yet keeps trying them. Cost us last night.

He is best grinding around the net and using his shot. That's what got him 47 goals last year. He needs to stop the fancy plays.

If Jenner had scored off of Matthews' weak turnover late in the third would you still have said this?

Difference is that was a one off play. Matthews is probably the best on the team at puck management honestly... and I'm a huge Marner fan haha.

Tavares constantly tries to make plays in the offensive zone that result in turnovers.

It didn’t seem like Babcock was the right man for the job, but I think there are elements of his program that look more like a contending playoff team than a lot of the characteristics of the Full Dubas/Keefe program.

well,, you and i do differ a bit,,,i see a 47g 88p +19 a superstar season while being our
#1 C

as for our cap issue, yes i agree but that's on the 3 RFAs/GM not on a premium UFA

it's one thing to blow leads against a team like Boston and the #1 line in the NHL

it's a different thing doing that to the 28th ranked offensive team

Yes. When we need a goal, who steps up? Matthews or Tavares?

Who performs better on a consistent basis?

Who performs better in crucial games?

Austin Matthews is the real captain
