I think this team would actually be in a better position to make the playoffs if they throw in the towel and sell off a few of their Veterans. Get some younger legs in the mix. Die on that hill. Figure some out some things for the 25/26 season.

I watched the first 10 minutes of the game and then proceeded to start skipping (watching on an hour delay). I've given up trying to consume this terrible product in full most nights. I can get behind a great team (obviously). I can get behind a mediocre team fighting tooth and nail. I can get behind a youth movement. This is just hard to watch though.....

Shedding Coyle's contract should be priority #1. Not sure if that's possible, but would love to see some creativity in terms of player movement. That has never been a strong point of Sweeney though.

agree with you, I'd rather see them lose with a young speedy guy than watching guys like Frederic and Coyle go around in slow motion out there, and who knows, the hungry young guys might play better and give them a better chance at the playoffs, couldn't do worse

I'm saving myself a lot of grief by just concluding we are not making the playoffs.
No big deal.
Likely best off we don't.
I had us pegged in the last 25 games going 10-15.
After tonite I guess 9-16.

After this season's done...a major check up is needed.

Coyle can move on. Complementary only works on strong teams. He, Frederic, etc can all move on.

You hit it on the head with Coyle. TF too but i see Coyle this way: He is a low-end, offense-first 2nd line or offense first 3rd liner and that only works on loaded teams where you can overwhelm opponents with offense.
Coyle as checking center has been a failure in the end but most of the media bought it hook, line and sinker.

Even though that film is extremely depressing and with a subject matter not appropriate for some viewers, at least it's not boring.

She was dead on tonight though about the goal where Pasta over committed and left Gudas wide open for that pass to Vatrano.

How many times have we seen Pasta or JDB burst in and score? Many times.

Yes, puck possession is a much needed thing to have in OT. But speed is too.

Agreed the crowd was trash tonight. Not that the Bruins gave us much to cheer for but it was over the top imo. We had Ducks fans a row in front of us they were great people. I saw your section during the contested call I wondered if you gals were in the crossfire.. terrible.

For those that want them to play the young guys and let them learn the ropes, that's clearly what they're doing with Poitras and Lohrei. I've got no problem with it, but there will be growing pains - nightly.

Wotherspoon did a nice "Next man up" job, playing bigger minutes. Not bad considering that was his first game in February.

Agree on Geekie, and even though it does indeed seem like he burns his share of chances and then some, he still has the best shooting percentage on the team (astonishingly Coyle has the 2nd-best - maybe that guy needs to shoot the puck more). And that's really valuable on a team that lacks finish in general.

I always think it's really instructive seeing which guys step up and contribute on a team that's struggling. Geekie, Pasta obviously, Kastelic, Zacha to a point. I also think Wotherspoon's done a really solid job. He is what he is - a bottom pair defender - but he's taken the extra responsibility and time and done the best he can with it. Great compete and he's been notable in trying to get more involved offensively.

Lohrei is a really unique project. A guy who started out as a forward who doesn't have a natural defensive bone in his body, trying to play D at a high level in the NHL. He's clearly very talented, he has good offensive instincts, and he can sometimes make solid defensive plays. But then he also commits basic errors that wouldn't normally be acceptable in college, let alone the AHL. It's quite fascinating really, equal parts exciting and frustrating, and I hope he makes it stick. But no guarantees. Same goes for Poitras for different reasons.

I think after last nights emotionless, lack-luster display there should be no question that we need to sell anything that anyone might possibly want.
The good news for Sweeney is he can add Mcavoys injury to Lindholms when he quickly tosses out excuses for this mess he created. Trust me when I say he WILL be quick to use it.

I may be in the minority, but I’m getting Lohrei’d out. Way, way too many mistakes for what he brings. I know he’s young, but at what point do we see any improvement?
