Thought Tavares had a good game but obviously that turnover is painful. But it happens. Matthews was our best player I thought but he had a brutal turnover late in the 3rd period that could have ended it.

Tavares was excellent all game. The turnover sucks, and it's a play that he seems to be prone to.

He's not the same guy I loved in NYI, that's for sure, but I think he's getting more than his fair share of hate.

Spend his prime year at NYI and then came here to become to the most richest stay at home dad ever.

He was already bad skater and now he's old man who have new born kids at home. Good for him, bad for Leafs. He is already shelf of his best, wait 1-2 years and you have huge dump in your hands. Sponsored by Dubler Dubas.

His first season he put up career highs in goals & points... lol..

well,, you and i do differ a bit,,,i see a 47g 88p +19 a superstar season while being our
#1 C

as for our cap issue, yes i agree but that's on the 3 RFAs/GM not on a premium UFA

Tavares came in to a team that was over 100 points and they remained the same. His second year they regressed. Again I am open to different views and know I might be unique in believing that sometimes the best decision you can make is say thank you Tavares, good luck in SJ. Dubas’ first offer was rumoured to be 9.5. Which would of been fair.

Was he supposed to lose money? I'd say if the ask was $8.5m, he lost a lot.

that was 8.5/8. He got 7/5.5. He missed half a year. He also made a disgusting amount in signing bonuses. I think prorated he got almost exactly what he was looking for. Dubas was using Ehlers at 6/7. He got no where near that...

All in all that deal is still fine. Matthews at 11.634 is okay for 8 years. Not for 5. Marner at just under 11 is awful.

I know people are going to look at game score and some dangles but honestly, Mikhayev and Marner have been mostly underwhelming these playoffs which are his linemates. I have seen him work his ass off, not sure what else he can do.
Come the Olympics, I don't want Marner on Team Canada no matter what his point total is. Same with JT.

I don't think JT makes it at this point, but Marner I imagine will unless he gets pushed to the 4th line. In that case, they likely load up on better 2 way players that can play C to fill in.

I agree.

However, in the International Tournament's thread, when posters put together a Canadian team, both Tavares and Marner are always on it. NEITHER should make the team.

Tavares is not a franchise center. He’s the YouTube Premium to Kadri’s free YouTube. Unnecessary expenditure for a unnecessary upgrade.

Agreed, and it's not his fault that he was acquired under those circumstances. He just wanted to play for his hometown club.

I was very excited when we signed him but in retrospect, I wonder what our team salary structure and roster composition would look like today had we not signed him and kept Kadri as the #2 centre.

I want to see Tavares-Matthews-Hyman for a few shifts, we need to load up a heavy line instead of spreading out the heaviness. If Jones is going to be playing 28+ mins a game, make him work every second of those 28 minutes.

Huh? Marner has played with Matthews the last 2 games.

You mean Nylander... I agree with that. Without the puck on his stick Nylander is pretty much invisible.

Tavares and nylander are no shoes. Marner and Matthews dominated every shift

Nylander on at least two occasions stopped skating to let the jacket player get to the puck so he didn’t get hit

Shameful

Mikhayev's agent wanted a big payday, good luck with that, get together with Barrie's agent and pound sand.

I was talking about the first 70 games of the 2019-20 season, as you seemed to be.

If you want to make hasty judgments about player performance after 5 months off, I guess that's your prerogative.

I was actually referring to both those time frames. I thought he was mediocre compared to last year during the regular season and down right terrible in Game 1. He looked amazing in Game 2 and so-so to good in Game 3. So yes perhaps a bit hasty. That turnover last night didn’t help his cause though

The one positive we had when Tavares signed was having another #1 Centre in the lineup when injuries happened, because remember in the 2018-19 season when Matthews was hurt. Prior to that they didn't have anyone who could fill his shoes until they signed Tavares.
