An extremely high, unsustainable SV% will do that.

Or Glass does a good job helping with cutting down high quality scoring chances, usually to the 2nd PP unit. It's 110 minutes of play over an entire season, so we're probably talking about a little bit of both.

SH SV% is highly variable, so it's more than likely random chance than Glass being a good penalty killer.

We will see. I mean, Hagelin's numbers are nearly identical and I consider him a pretty good penalty killer. Right now, though, it's the cool thing to do, when talking about Glass, for people to plug their fingers in their ears, stomp their feet, and yell "no, no, no, no, no!"

This is what I said early in the thread as a reaction

Every time a player leaves a team where he was having difficulty fitting in is a chance for that player to find a new team where he does fit. I wouldn't write Glass off, even if I am confused about the point of trading Dorsett just to sign him.

I'm sticking to that. The only reason I was confused about Dorsett is that he was already a fit. Glass is a Ranger now. Let's hope he proves a lot of people wrong. If he doesn't, he doesn't.

Because we let a better player in Dorsett go to sign him? That's why I'm pissed. I was fine with the DD trade, until I saw that we went and spent that money on this trash.

Anyone defending this trade has not seen Glass play in the past year. He is quite possibly the worst "regular" forward in the NHL.

I agree I'd probably want Dorsett over him. Personally I'd take Carcillo over both even though Dorsett has the most skill out of the three. Calling him a goon is still hyperbole. He played 12 minutes a year last year for an NHL team, and a good one at that. Played for AV in the past. I'll give it a chance.

I might not like Glass but I'm willing to give him a chance. I mean, he is a Ranger now.

Jeez, some of you act like he burned your houses down.

You expect people to be anything other than pissed off that we gave three years and a non-buriable cap hit to a goon?

what were glass's fancy stats like when he played for AV?
40.4 CF% in his last year in Vancouver. 531st out of 537 skaters with 500 minutes or more.

Which is a pretty good season for him. He's been bottom three in the league in two out of three seasons since.

TL;DR: To try and say you can't qualify who the "worst" players in the league are is ludicrous.

No, I think the exact opposite. There are pretty useless players. Even detrimental ones. I think I understand your example.

But no, a high-end prospect who sucks after a couple games isn't among the worst. An example is a guy like Mashinter. Guys who don't stick anywhere and manage a few call-ups throughout their careers. Problem is, if their not in the NHL at any given moment, you can't then say they're among the worst in the NHL... or can you? A lot of guys split for Europe too... am I making a clear point? Doubtful lol.

Tanner Glass has stuck in the NHL. If he were among the worst, not even Sather would have signed him, and he'd be in Europe. Are Prucha and Dawes worse? Was Brashear among the worst at the end (ok, I'll give you that one)?

Then you have to remember that you need to be a super-gifted, freak-of-nature athlete to be in the NHL...

Too many factors to put it that simply. Same for best, but that's a bit easier, usually.

Glass will easily be traded for a late pick if the Rangers want to do it down the road.

Maybe, but it's still a stupid and unnecessary risk to take on one of the very worst players in the league.

Is http://stats.hockeyanalysis.com/ an accurate source of info? It seems to go back further than Extraskater, but the two also don't appear to agree on their data.

And in the mean time, it cost us a chance at actually adding someone that could help us at the moment.

This is what kind of pisses me off... we could've gotten, say Ribeiro, really cheap but now... because it really looks like we overpayed a pretty bad player, on paper... guess we'll see... if we recall, Pyatt was at least good in the neutral zone 2 years ago.

Yes they are. They're not as user friendly, but has more information. Can you give me an example where the two don't agree?

Looking at their interface, I missed that Hockey Analysis doesn't default to close numbers so it looked like there were discrepancies. Now I see that they actually agree with Extra Skater once you match them up properly. Thanks for the info.

meh, won't pass judgment until we get him on the ice.

didn't think he was good on PIT, decent on VAN.

we'll see, maybe he can motor with Dom and a kid on the 4th line.

Well, Pouliot was crap before he came to the Rangers and he ended up with enough highlight-reel moments to get a 4m AAV deal. Who knows what might happen. If Glass performs, they can maybe trade him with his current contract instead of a 1-year deal worth nothing.

Pouliot was not crap before he came to the Rangers. Last year was third straight non-lockout season that he scored at least 30 points and he has always posted strong possession numbers. Glass has never cracked 20 points in a season and posts some of the very worst possession numbers in the league. He sucks.

Zuccarello made Pouliot a rich man, I think Pouliot owes him a beer...

Trade dorsett to get the pick while getting someone for free. That's my guess. Didn't think about it until singin' mentioned. Also, he's a left winger, as was Boyle.

I'm going to pretend you didn't just compare Benoit Pouliot to Tanner Glass as hockey players.

Lots of time and effort being devoted to a guy that's about 2% of our cap space and, probably, a less than 10 minute a game player that's decent on the PK.

We've got much bigger problems than Tanner Glass. If he sucks, he can be traded, waived, or benched. He's not a big concern.
