Boyle wasn't coming back to the Rangers because he wanted a bigger role in the team.
Yea, but why trade Dorsett if you're spending the money on glass?

Guys pls, lets keep the vitriol to Tanner Ass. He's the real criminal here.

I just dont get it.
Just dont sign Glass and Im feeling a lot better about yesterday
This is how I feel. Unfortunate to lose Stralman and I would've resigned him, fine with losing Boyle after what he said, and I like the AHL depth signings/Dom Moore. Would've liked Goc or something, but Grabo is on the market and i'm praying to the hockey gods we trade Klein (and then throw Glass in the AHL in October) to fit him.
...But signing one of the worst players (even if you don't think he is THE worst, he's definitely top 10 worst) to 3 years and almost one million more than the minimum? Literally what the **** is management thinking?
Pittsburgh had terrible depth and they didn't play Glass when it mattered.Watching Pittsburgh the past couple years, its clear that lack of depth has been their problem. Whenever I watched them, I'd think to myself "Man, Tanner Glass sucks and is part of that problem." He'd just add nothing.
Why the Rangers felt the need to give him 3 years is beyond me. Patrick Rissmiller-esque.
How about $1.45 million?Overpaying someone by half a million is never that big of a deal.
We couldve just added whatever money for boyle and used any ahl tough guy at minimum...

That would be the reasonable way to go. They certainly want to carry a tough guy, why not one on a one yr deal @ $950k less. You could have Carcillo and an AHL level fighter as the 13th forward with no term on their deals. The Glass contract doesn't make any sense. We couldve just added whatever money for boyle and used any ahl tough guy at minimum...
Steve Downie: 1 year, $1 million
Tanner Glass: 3 years, $1.45 million per
You can't make this stuff up.

Not defending Glass, really, but the idea of A 'top 10' (or bottom 10?) Worst players in the NHL is a joke. It's not like "you have to be this good to ride." But if you really wanna qualify it on such a small level, the "worst" NHLers are the guys that play a game or two in their entire career. Glass has been an NHL regular, he's doing something right... don't ask me, I've never paid much attention to him, as I guarantee 90% of the people acting so put off and confused by the signing haven't either.
I see his stats are not good, but half of HFBoards will tell you stats mean nothing, so...
Maybe AV seew something in him. It's likely his influence weighed into the signings quite a bit--Sather has never shown concern over building up Hartford.
BTW, Dorsett sucks too.
Boyle wanted/wants a bigger role. He wasn't going to get that here.
I don't think he's going to get that in TB either. Look at their centers. He's not going to be 3C, and I'd be real shocked if they put him as a third line wing with their forward depth.
Something soured with him and NYR. I thought it was dumb for him to demand a line assignment on July 1 and I thought it was really, really dumb of AV to deny it to him outright. Could and should have said, "we'll give you X amount for Y years, and you'll get the spot you earn in camp or throughout the year" or just say, "okay, we'll give you a long look on the third line," and if he thrives, great, if he doesn't, too bad, he'll be back on the fourth. There was no reason to slam that door shut, at least not that we saw as fans.
Then there was talk that NYR didn't even contact him or offer him a deal. And he ended up signing for 2m/year. Again, something had to have gone wrong.
What a waste of a good asset and locker room presence.

They could use him on the PP as a guy who will stand in front of the goalie. They obviously said the right thing.
