Lots of time and effort being devoted to a guy that's about 2% of our cap space and, probably, a less than 10 minute a game player that's decent on the PK.

We've got much bigger problems than Tanner Glass. If he sucks, he can be traded, waived, or benched. He's not a big concern.

It's an opportunity to stomp feet and pout. :)

One thing I always noticed with Tanner is that he lays the body relentlessly. Hard on the forecheck, throw the body first - ask questions later.

So because of that, I'll give him a clean slate to see how he does on our 4th line.

Seeing as how ee have no choice, I'll back ya on this one.

I am getting over this. I totally understand the need for a guy who can drop the gloves and stick up for his teammates. I'm hoping they find someone with a bit more skill who can also do the same for the RW spot.

Ya, I agree...really no choice. So what are we looking at as a fourth line? Moore-Glass-Carcillo? Hopefully that will be just as good as Moore-Boyle-Dorsett.

This is what I've noticed as well. That and he's a serviceable PKer. Sounds ok to me for a 4th liner. We certainly got a little tougher.

All this anger in here for a dude who hasn't even played a game for us yet

To be fair, I think there would be a lot less vitriol if Sather had signed Glass to a similar deal that Pittsburgh gave Downie - 1 year, $1 million.

It's the three years at $1.45 million per the understandably has people scratching their heads for reasons why.

I would hope so. That's my biggest gripe. The Downie contract is so much more reasonable and disposable.

Downie (5'11 190) isn't scaring anyone and not filling the role that Glass (6' 1, 210) does. Downie is an agitating player, he's not going to drop the gloves and protect a teammate and, if he does, it's in Dorsett fashion. If John Scott is still getting 700K contracts...

I'm not saying Glass is a great contract. It isn't. But the overpayment here isn't huge - maybe 250-450K/season too much. Not a big number.

All the same...maybe he'll be worth the $1.45? Nobody in here knows the answer to that yet. Personally, I like that we got tougher, but that's the old school in me. I also like that he has history with AV. I'm optimistic.

Maybe. Maybe not. The three years is the biggest issue for me. Makes no sense.

Perhaps not in dropping the gloves, but Downie is a far more agitating type of player than Dorsett - and he's also significantly better hockey player than Glass. Downie has a lot of 'crazy' in him, and he keeps other teams on edge.

And Pittsburgh signed him for one year, not three.

I think there was a conscious decision on the Rangers part to move away from "stupid" penalties from 4th liners, especially stick fouls and basic non-contact penalties.

Quick math shows 17 minors in 62G for Downie, 9 in 51 for Dorsett and 9 in 67 for Glass.

Not saying this is worth giving guys more money than others, or makes up for the fact that Glass is probably the least skilled of the three, but I think it played a factor in overall choice.

Please not another Sean Avery type of player, never fights, just running around yappin and yellin. We had Carcillo like that, didn't work out. So we certainly don't want Downie.

horrible contract.

'Funny' how Sather lowballed Zuccarello to sign him at 1.15 and then gives 1.45 for 3 yrs with ease to this useless guy.

Now after the Boyle and Glass signings I guess he will go to Zuck and say something like "see, we don't have room to offer more than this.."

It won't be as good. You just hope the money saved on that line, compared to what was and would, is spent to make other parts better and the team as a whole better than it would've been (read, not necessarily better results than last season).

Even if he saved money you'd hope he played hardball with his RFAs. That's well within Sather's rights and most GMs would use it to their advantage to help ice a team under the cap.

It was Zucc who accepted 1.15 to help them sign Stepan and get under the cap.

I believe he will get a deal he deserves this time, Slats owes him one.

He's been in the bottom-10 players in 5-on-5 puck possession with three different teams and three different sets of linemates in the past four seasons (bottom-3 in two of those). I have to believe he's the problem there. If the Rangers plan on using the 4th in the same manner as last season, it will be to their detriment.

The contract itself is probably not quite as big of a deal as myself and
some others are making it out to be. But the fact that they felt this was a good use of a very scarce asset--cap space--is very concerning to me.

:handclap::handclap::handclap:

Exactly. Is he a bad to awful signing? Maybe.

Could the 1.5/3 be used more effectively elsewhere? I def feel it could.
