Weird he is so hated yet played a couple seasons with AV, who likely put in a good word for him. Is AV that out of touch? So many talk about how great AV is, but none will trust him in this. Guess we sall see the ice.

AV the coach is great, but nobody wants AV the GM.

I think its more what fans of other teams are saying coupled with Sathers history of over paying for players like Glass. IE Brashear, Boogard (RIP), Ashem and Rupp.

This can't be true...

On the main board they are laughing at us, calling Glass the worst turnover machine in the league. And on speed he couldn't beat a friggin snail.

Did we really waste 1.45M of cap space on this? Sounds like it would be better to keep Dorsett :shakehead

The main board is garbage. They laughed at the rangers for making the finals.

I found it interesting to hear AV say that he's improved a lot since his time in Vancouver.

I understand why people don't like it; just thought some of those fears would be quelled by the guy who likely said he's better than anyone else thinks, and he's closest to knowing him and has a vision of how he fits.

NHL coaches and GMs aren't infallible. Literally everything besides AV saying he's improved shows that Glass is awful. I'm inclined to follow the 99% of evidence.

I agree they aren't infallible...just wondering how a guy so in the know can be so wrong. I trust his evaluation of a player more than I do mine. Perhaps there's more to it.

How screwed are we excatly, considering AV likes to roll 4 lines. Im not sure I can take 13+ minutes of Tanner Glass all day, everyday

Excuse me, sir, do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior Tanner Glass?

Is it the 13 minutes a game that would make you twitch or is it the 1,095 days that he is under contract.
That's a long time. This guy should be year to year for different clubs but never more than 1 year. Look at Carkner on NYI. 3 year deal, seems like he has been on L.I. For ten years. I hope it works out.

Is there a way to "opposite sticky" a thread? Like, to send this thread to the depths of the depths of HFNYR?

It ruins my day every time I come to our section and see this thread.

The man is a human being, mind you. A damn smart and decent one, too. If you want to get his NYR career off to a start via a 18 page rip-fest courtesy what a few other teams message board posters have to say about the guy, so be it. Sort of an inhuman approach.

I think fans can treat hockey players as objects who exist only for their entertainment (see St. Louis' trade request), but discussing Glass' ability relative to the contract is definitely fair game.

I'm sure he's a great dude. So was Mike Rupp. I bet John Scott and Deryk Engelland are, too. Jeff Francoeur is an awesome human being if you listen to every anecdote that goes round the internet.

But they're not very good at the sport they play. And giving 3 years at more than a million (like Burke and Slats/Gorton did) is atrocious management.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

From all accounts, he sounds like a good guy. I'm sure every single person in this thread bashing him is rooting for him to prove us all wrong too. But the fact of the matter is, we gave out an absolutely ridiculous contract to a player that's statistically been one of the worst players that sees regular ice time in the NHL in the past couple of years.

It's not just the contract that pisses me off but the events surrounding it as well. The Rangers make a very good trade by dumping Dorsett for a 3rd which is solid value and clears up much needed cap space which we need every penny of. Even Sather himself cited the trade as being done for "cap relief." We then see tons of guys go for dirt cheap on 1 year deals (Malhotra at 850K being one of the many) and then see Sather hand out THIS contract. It's just mind boggling. Many will say it's no big deal since it's a 4th liner and if he's that bad he'll be dealt which could very well be true but we could have used that extra 500-800K on someone that would be much more beneficial to the team, especially when there's still pressing needs like a 2/3C or 2/3LW.

If you really want a player like Tanner Glass, there's tons of them on the scrap heap that could be found for dirt cheap if you waited more than 3 hours into free agency.

Is it that ridiculous though? As I am looking around the league, it seems on par with most UFA's. Hell, Matt Hendricks and Eric Nystrom both got 2.5 million/season on 4 year deals. Jordin Tootoo. Derek Boogaard (RIP). Brandon Prust. Shawn Thornton. Joel Ward. Deryk Engelland.

Is it a good contract? No. But is it the worst? No.
