Is it that ridiculous though? As I am looking around the league, it seems on par with most UFA's. Hell, Matt Hendricks and Eric Nystrom both got 2.5 million/season on 4 year deals. Jordin Tootoo. Derek Boogaard (RIP). Brandon Prust. Shawn Thornton. Joel Ward. Deryk Engelland.

Is it a good contract? No. But is it the worst? No.

Boyle seemed to have boiled it down the best, through a link regarding the contract. Seems less "bad" in years 2 & 3, as in he may be movable. Begs the question as to why they'd target such a player if everyone's analyses turn out to be true, although as many have pointed out, and I agree with, Sather has made many questionable personnel moves over the years. Hopefully he works out. Got a couple Ivy Leaguers out there on the fourth line, although the last Ranger I recall from Dartmouth never saw the NY ice and the school one went to doesn't always translate into smarts on the ice. We shall see...

Yeah, I was pretty pissed about it. I don't think he has much, if any skill. However, he will undoubtedly be a better player than Boogaard or Brashear ever were here.

I haven't seen much of him (never paid attention to be honest). Flying blind with management on this one, something I don't like to do but haven't seen much of him and have seen stats stats, that's all I have unless I just want to be negative, which I don't feel like being this Summer.

He's not very good, although he is relatively disciplined. He won't take stupid penalties and will sacrifice his body on the PK. I think he will complement Moore pretty well honestly. Go to the net, get in on the forecheck.

However, in saying that, they need to find/have someone with a similar skill level to Moore on the right side.

with nothing left to pay, it may be tough finding that someone on the right side. That someone, at times, may need to be a guy from the top three lines who doesn't kill penalties and may get shutout of some PP time. Not taking stupid penalties and going hard on the forecheck are two nice attributes of a fourth liner. Sacrificing the body on the PK is nice, as long as he isn't lying on the ice as the puck carrier goes around him and there is a 5-on-3 behind him as a result. Again, the roster has some work left.

Should I be happy that the team is signing 4th line free agents whose best attribute is they are better than Boogaard and Brashear?

I'm wondering if someone like Ryan Bourque or Marek Hrivik would be a good addition to that line.

Yes, but I think part of the reason was that last season we had several low cost, potential high value pick ups (ie. Pouliot, Moore) off the bargain bin. We didn't do that this year.

Perhaps they are thinking a kid for that position. Sometimes wish they'd just tell us what they're thinking...OK, that's not realistic, but it would be nice to hear the possibilities out there instead of guessing.

Yet. They haven't done that yet. Still time to fill those last 2 spots with a value addition. Or to back-fill a traded player with a value addition.

I know. I know.

And I appreciate your optimism even though I don't share it.

I am not sure why I am optimistic about a signing like this, just can't bring myself to be negative before the guy even pulls on the sweater.

I agree, sometimes it would be nice for them to not hold all of their cards so close to their chest.

I'd be fine with radio silence if I had any confidence they have the right moves brewing. Signings like this display a clear lack of imagination. It's disheartening.

I think #NYR fans will really like @TGlass15 a lot, both for his rugged style of play as well as his friendly, outgoing personality...

I think at this point he's here and he likely will have a chance to play and there is a good possibility we will see a bit of him this coming season. I think Singn' is trying to at least show one person out there who thinks there is a positive. I get what everyone is saying. I don't know much about him but have to think he's a big step down from Boyle on a team that successfully rolled four lines, with a coach who enjoyed rolling four lines. That sucks, but I'm hoping for the best. I'm hoping that he can kill penalties. I'm hoping that he will take the body, cause turnovers and that Moore, with his speed, can get to those loose puck. I'm hoping he doesn't take the odd, stupid penalty. I'm hoping he does stick up for a teammate and invigorates his teammates. I get the negativity. I'm just trying to look at some positives as this team continues to fill the holes to see what it looks like for September.

I'm holding out hope for a cheap Ott signing. 2 years 3 mill (total).

Ott would be the guy to fill Boyle's shoes... and I couldn't really think of anyone better that is available.

Glass would then fit Dorsett's shoes, and that's much more manageable (for expectations) for us fans in terms of what we should expect Glass to bring to the table.

The free agent season is not unlike the entry draft. You hope for one guy and you get another.

But anyway.....the going rate for veteran 4th liners these days is $1 mil+ per. Whether you want the guy or not it's not like we overpaid all that much for him--maybe a little.

It's not like I'm a fan of Sather's. IMO he should have been fired about ten years ago. This doesn't seem to me to me that big of a deal. Basically what I expect from a 4th liner is that he provides some energy, play physically, kill penalties and chip in points here and there. At least one of our 4th line guys should be able to take some heat when trouble arises. Glass pretty much covers what a 4th line guy should be. To me--I would absolutely have preferred Brian Boyle to Glass but what are you going to do if Brian Boyle doesn't want to play his part here anymore?
