Really not a big deal. The people who complain every time there's a shadow of an opportunity will complain about this. Big shock.
It's almost no money for a short amount of time for a player that can and will easily be traded if he doesn't work out.

The same unreasonable amount of drama around a small signing. We're not "stuck with him" for the next three seasons. People get traded all. the. time. Even people that HF thinks suck. Very, very, very rarely is a team truly "stuck" with anyone for any reason.
Also, I can't help but laugh about how everyone is so sure that they know better than AV. He says he likes Glass. It's very likely that he pulled for Glass. Yes, Glass' numbers aren't good, even with AV in the past. But, I'm not about to listen to a bunch of HF posters and a blogger over the coach of the team who has had this guy in his room and on his team before. I'm just not. No number of armchair pros makes up for one actual pro IMO.
Again, it's not a home run by any means, but it's not nearly the hindrance it's being blown up into. This place needs to whine hard about something all the time. Glass is that for now.

Almost anyone can be traded at almost any time. People worse than Glass or with worse contracts than him relative to their ability have been traded, and will be traded again.
There's almost 500 posts, most of which are complaints, about a guy who makes roughly 2% of the cap, and who is by no means immovable. That's "over the top" to me.
I'm not condoning the deal, I'm trying to look at it while keeping reality in mind rather than assuming worst case outcomes across the board and pretending that the league works in a way it doesn't.

I've never heard AV say anything particularly complimentary of Glass. He was a healthy scratch for Bylsma 5 of 7 games against the Rangers.

I don't hate Tanner Glass, I'm just fully aware of his suckitude.
For all his fast skating and hard hitting, he sure does spend an alarming amount of time in his own zone. It's like he doesn't use them to to win/keep possession or advance the puck...

The cap hit for him being in Hartford is 500K correct?
When we will only have around 2 million after the RFAs sign, that extra 500K could be the difference between being able to sign a guy like Setoguchi or acquiring another player that can put the puck in the net.
Hopefully Vigneault and Arniel can turn him into a useful player.

It would be 525K. Anything that's over 925K in salary counts against the cap if you get sent down.
