I'm holding out hope for a cheap Ott signing. 2 years 3 mill (total).

Ott would be the guy to fill Boyle's shoes... and I couldn't really think of anyone better that is available.

Glass would then fit Dorsett's shoes, and that's much more manageable (for expectations) for us fans in terms of what we should expect Glass to bring to the table.

This is what I'm saying.. Glass replaced DORSETT, not Boyle... the leadership aspect he carries (supposedly) is an added bonus, plus he kills penalties, something that Dorsett shied away from after breaking his leg.

If Ott can replace Boyle, then our 4th line is actually a little more mobile than last years in my opinion... Would definitely love to see an Ott signing...

Those arms!

A few more comments and we'll need to start a second thread for Tanner Glass.

Honestly, who cares? It's just $1.5. If he doesn't pan out, he'll go to the minors and our cap hit will be only a few hundred thousand. If he does pan out, it's well worth the $1.5, which is only about 2% of the salary cap.

I care. I don't enjoy when my favorite team throws money at ****** players, no matter how much money it is.

If you're going to throw 3 years at a guy (not on an ELC), it shouldn't be a question of whether or not he's going to pan out. Forget about the money.

And what it says about the team's thought process is even more alarming.

they acquired someone who's a known quantity to the team's head coach, having played for him a couple seasons, and having played against him, what, 10 times this past season? So they know who they acquired. And it's a guy who apparently sucks, but who has stuck in the NHL for the last 5 seasons making about $1MM per season. The bump-up in salary is a bit odd, but perhaps they bumped him up because they structured his contract to protect their downside and remain flexible because perhaps they are taking a chance, albeit a calculated chance, with this acquisition. I hate giving Sather the benefit of the doubt, especially with a signing like this (I mean, was this guy in demand that he had to be gobbled up on the first day of free agency?), but I guess to some extent I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. For as bad as Sather has been, he was the architect of a team that went to the Conference Finals, lost to a darn good team in the second round, and then went to the SCFs. Maybe that doesn't achieve the objective of winning the Cup, but it's a pretty decent track record the past three seasons.

"Toughness", probably.

Glass is a coach's pet, too.

Now, let me think, who in the organization has shown a propensity to throw multiple year contracts at duds in the name of "toughness?"

Hmmm....

I think the good move = Gorton and bad move = Sather stuff has gotten out of hand, but this has Sather's fingerprints all over it.
