Being a proponent of having a little sandpaper in the lineup, I see the need for having that element and the value that it can bring, but not at the expense of bad hockey.

The Carcillo move was made because Rick Nash concussion and all stepped up for his teammates this season, especially in a Dec game against Washington where no body followed up. No body.

Not even Dorsett. Who I think is a faux TUFF guy in the sense that he only steps up for himself and not his teammates or when the game needs a shift in momentum. It's not like Dorsett dropping the gloves ever helped in swaying momentum the other way since he got his face punched in.

But Glass for what he can bring is clearly not a reliable minute eater for 10-12 minutes a night. Maybe AV turns it around for him, but one of the biggest strengths of the 4th line last year, particularly with Boyle-Moore-Carcillo was that they took all their defensive zone starts and moved the puck the other way.

Glass sucks at that, and that will be a liability. I hope that he can spark some energy into the lineup with big hits and stepping up accordingly, and I fully expect him to do that (something that Dorsett did not), but I would be shocked if he was a difference maker on the PK or helped with moving the puck up the ice.

That said, the Rangers defense is much more adept and deeper than that of WPG or PIT so might see some better CF numbers out of Glass with his D-Zone starts.

If he has to be sheltered like JMoore was last year, then he'll be in HFD by Xmas.

It would be 525K. Anything that's over 925K in salary counts against the cap if you get sent down.

Thanks. Yea, that doesn't seem like a lot, but for a cap strapped team like the Rangers, it makes a difference. That's nearly Mueller's and Kostka's individual cap hits (600K each).

Cross your collective fingers and hope that Glass reveals more than you have seen.
I am thinking of it that way. To date, I just cannot be impressed, but maybe he fills his role.

I dunno, the guy has looked like barely NHL capable when I have seen him play.

My question--why has ANYBODY, EVER actually WATCHED him play??? It's not like he was an Islander or Devil... if he truly sucked so badly, why then would anyone pay attention to him to formulate these opinions?

He was on Pittsburgh last year. They're on tv all the time. There's a reason he spent most of the series against us as a healthy scratch despite Pittsburgh having zero forward depth. He sucks.

It is a good read...saying Sather didn't want to overpay for marquee names is interesting, but failed to point out that had he, he would not have a team of 18 skaters and two goalies for each game. Would be tough under the cap. Also, in regards to trading Dorsett, it may have been a cap-saving move, but I'd think that it was also to add a draft pick, which could be added in a trade to get a better player later, or actually having a pick, while picking up someone similar in free agency. As it relates to Glass, which is still the topic of the day until someone else is signed or someone is traded, I think many of us would have said the same thing...that they did their homework, have a plan and tried protecting the downside a bit. Of course, most do not agree with the plan, and none have really heard the rationale from the horse's mouth, in fact nobody has, and if they do it will not be in-depth and won't mean anything.

So did Derek Dorsett. Glass is bigger, skates faster, hits harder, and can win fights. I will take him over Dorsett any day.

A few problems:

1) Dorsett didn't suck. He was good forechecker with speed who helped us prevent the other team from gaining quality zone time.

2) Being bigger, faster, and a harder hitter only matters if it translates into the quality of your play. By his record you can clearly see that it doesn't.

3) I don't give a flying **** about winning fights.

a VERY high draft pick considering what Dorsett was... Sather basically took an OK player, got a decent 3rd round draft pick for him, then turned that 3rd round draft pick into TWO picks...

The New York Rangers' third-round pick went to the Washington Capitals as the result of a trade on June 28, 2014 that sent a fourth-round pick in 2014 (104th overall) and Chicago's fourth-round pick in 2014 (118th overall) to New York in exchange for this pick.[22]

So Dorsett netted us a great season, as going to be a UFA next year, and still got us TWO draft picks, and one of those was Keegan Iverson.

Then we replaced Dorsett with Glass, an AV guy, for $200k cheaper...

I understand the *****ing for the move, but it's unnecessary

The Ranger's traded their original third rounder for the two fourths. The Rangers got pick 85 for Dorsett, which became Iverson.

Ya, you left out that Dorsett was also part of a fourth line that at many times was one of our best lines during the Stanley Cup playoffs, and arguably a big reason we made it to the Finals.

In the meantime, Glass did zero on the fourth line against us in the playoffs, a healthy scratch five of the seven games and a non-factor in the limited ice time he did get in the two games he dressed against us.

Yeah, huge upgrade. :shakehead

Glass not being able to consistently get onto the ice on a Pittsburgh team devoid of any depth speaks volumes.
