Man, this third period...it was a clinic lol. Ned kept us in a game till the end, kudos to him! Hard to win against this stacked lightning team without finding the back of the net. We desperately need more offensive tools and letting Dougie walk looks like an option.

Shout out to all the caniacs from your fellow fan from Russia!

P.S.
My first post, yay! Been following for the long time though

Nobody wants to hear this, and I understand why, but it might simply be a case of having to wait those other teams out. They're older/more experienced etc. I'm not suggesting the Canes should sit around and stagnate waiting for their turn, but you just can't put a team made up largely of 20 to 26 year players out there against a team made up of 25 to 30 year old players and expect magic. It just doesn't work that way.

I don't think it's matter of just getting older with more experience

There's something flawed with the system. This run and gun, high tempo, skate other teams into the ground, huge forecheck style that Rod plays, is not sustainable for a regular season and long playoffs.

I don't think it's a great style for the playoffs anyways.

Nobody wins a cup by skating around another team.

Welcome. I completely agree with the first point. But I find it hard to reconcile the two parts of the second point. If more offensive weapons are key to going deeper, Hamilton is a unique offensive weapon and I feel this offense is tailored to best leverage his abilities.

OTOH, if letting Hamilton walk means retooling the system to match the remaining talent, maybe Rod rebuilds a system better suited to the playoffs.

You don't really believe that will go smoothly, do you? My bet is he joins John in Seattle.
You're probably right. For all of the team's kumbaya sentiment, it always comes down to the cash.

He's on SiriusNHL right now..he sounds so sad. He says it has been a privilege to be with the Canes for the last 23 years. Said Rod knew after game 1 that we had missed our moment (it was kinda over when we didn't win) to implant some doubt.

He's said some tough comments re: Dougie - said he had a disappointing playoffs and doesn't sound confident about a deal, critical re: Svech but thinks he'll grow from the tough, hard lessons and rebound, surprised RBA's contract isn't done but hopes it gets done in the next few days. Thinks he squeezed all he could out of the team.

If they screw tripp over enough that he walks i would probably have to really re assess my own loyalty to the team. With forslund he obviously had other options and a family to take care of and had already been dipping his toe in different waters. Tripp is almost the face of the canes as much as Brind'Amour. If they let Brind'Amour go this early that would be even worse. I dont think either will happen.

You, sir, have been spewing nothing but sense all night. I was just thinking similarly - Tampa is loaded with vets. And their vets are studs. The Canes’ vets are good players, mostly role players really (one could debate what Staal is, but he certainly cannot carry this team), but the real core, the superstars and potential superstars, are babies.
They’ll get where the fans want them to get to, but it won’t be fast. It’s a learning curve and they were taught a pretty good lesson the last week or so.

Tampa's roster average age is only about a year higher than CAR. Montreal's is higher than both of them.

I wasn’t saying age = success. You have to have studs. Montreal is just a bad team who happened to beat other bad teams.

Tampa’s studs are for the most part older, wiser,
more playoff hardened. The Canes’ studs are young-ish. They’ll learn.

oh and Vasilevskiy.

I don't really buy most of the flawed system or flawed player stuff. Just keep putting a good team out there every year and hope it all comes together for deep runs a few times. Great teams go out early every year. Especially in the divisional format if you have good teams in your division. At least we're going out to pretty good teams and not massive upsets. We were fairly outclassed, but it's not hard to imagine moments in games 1 and 4 for instance that make things look pretty different.

I’m actually not a big fan of Eichel, and he’s banged up anyways but thinking about trading for him makes me wonder if for that level of success we need Aho to be a number two? As great as he is neither he nor TT are grab the game by the throat types. They thrive on mistakes and using space you give them. Svech is a power winger, which is great but has limitations. These guys have more room to grow but I could see us in on Eichel just because that’s a move that takes us to the next level and players like that don’t come available often. Just a thought. I’m not saying we need it or that this group can’t grow more. It will.
Either Eichel or someone else, but yeah... We need an elite scorer. And by that I mean we need a guy who an opponent needs to scheme their entire defensive effort for an entire game to contain. We need someone who opens up the ice for the rest of the team. In time, I think Svech or Necas can grow into being that kind of player, but the truth is, our current contention window will be closing if not outright closed by the time they get there. If we want to win with this core (Aho, Turbo, Svech, Necas, Slavin, Pesce) we are going to need to rethink our roster and probably make one or two big swing deals to bring in a legitimate top line scorer and possibly another middle 6 guy for depth.

Hey! Glad to get aboard!

I love Dougie and he's been a great story on and off the ice. His elite offensive skills are no-brainer + when he's filling it he's a beast but it's not always the case unfortunately and that really bugs me. I hate this complete lack of interest he's showing on occasional basis. So for my money landing him for a long term would be a mistake.

As for offense, to start with we need someone like Hörnqvist or Big Rig + Svech needs to step up big
