Clearly. Maybe they should make an example of Spezza and just ban him for life. I mean, this makes Bertuzzi look like a love tap right?
It’s pretty amusing tbh. I rarely post on mainboards but they are making it sound like Spezza took the guys knee out with a Zamboni.

1. Foligno leaves bench to fight
2. Foligno runs over campbell in crease
3. Pionk brutally knees Sandin
4. Dubois knees Woll in the head
5. Stanley 3rd man in a fight

in 2 games.

Simmonds fined, Sandin out 2 to 3 weeks or more, Sepzza potentially getting suspended, both campbell and woll could have been out long term

while other teams and those piece of shit refs don't get any disciplinary action except Pionk b/c it was blatantly obvious

f*** Parros, f*** the refs, f*** Bettman and f*** this bush league called NHL

Parros is a f***ing joke and so is the league when it comes to player safety. Guy is an absolute clown who is totally crooked and unfit for his position.

Pionk is also a rat and has tried to go after skilled guys on the Leafs before. Hope next game against Winnipeg they dress Gabriel

This is a tough call for Parros. Repeat offenders are supposed to get punished harder, do you "take it easier" on a guy that has played 1200 games, and IIRC, never once been in a disciplinary action meeting.

That being said, this is a pretty brutal hit. Spezza has clear line of sight of Pionk, going to his knees to try and bat the puck. He goes knee on head which IMO, is more dangerous than knee-on-knee. On the flip side, suspensions are often based on whether the other guy is injured -- Pionk wasn't, Sandin was.

Has he ever had a suspension or fine?

No but that hasn’t stopped the wrongly named DoPS from handing out harsh penalties to Leafs before. Kadri’s first suspension was similar to Foligno running over Campbell and he got three games. Human’s first suspension got two, and I think Kerfoot’s first suspension also got two.

There was no head contact on the play.

He may have "followed through" more towards the shoulder than the head, but that is Spezza's knee on Pionk's cheek/chin.

The blurry still shot is deceptive - the head is in the foreground because it bends down a bit after Spezzas knee makes contact with his upper body. U can watch the live video to see the actual point of impact, which is around the collar bone.

If u don't trust the video - think about it logically, would Pionk be able to pop up right away like nothing has happened if the brunt of the knee met his head? He'd have to have a tougher chin than prime Tyson.

Watching the live video is how I got the screenshot.

Like I said, he followed through primarily in the direction of body/shoulder, the head may not have even been the principal point of contact, but there was contact, and that kind of play is EXTREMELY dangerous.

Refs suck and Jets should have been punished way more.

That said Spezz deserves 5 games or so. That was f'ing dirty.

Also that said, totally worth it and i don't feel bad. Pionk is an asshat.

Yeah I don't see anything here either. Dubois is trying to get the puck before Woll swats it away. Nothingburger.

I think I've seen enough of Dubois to know he is the kind of player to "take advantage" of these situations. I would have been more surprised if he actually tried to track the puck or tried not to make contact with the goalie.

Yeah, I know what you mean. There's always going to be a small part of me that believes Perry knew exactly what he was doing when he took Tavares out and it's entirely because of the player, not the play.

Perry didn't know "exactly" what he was doing but also he saw a player in q vulnerable position and has never in his career passed up an opportunity to "incidentally" get a little piece of a guy in a vulnerable position.

I can't understand why Foligno to Campbell and Dubois to Woll aren't investigated, because in both cases it's knee to head. Same reason that Spezza is under investigation. I think there are differences in these cases but in grand scheme but common theme is hit to the head.

Opportunistic not targeted. It was really bad because it means Perry's natural inclination is to exploit the opponents' vulnerability rather than protect the opponent from a dangerous collision as has been the way of the league for over a century.
