I'm willing to cut Bourque some slack. I think he's been alright since coming here. He works, he hits and most importantly he's willing to stand in front of the net. His contract is not the best, but if he could put up 10-15 goals, I'm not sure I'd classify him as an albatross.

Boll is another story completely. I've hated that deal since the moment it was signed. I understand the fan boy infatuation with Boll because he fights, but I'll never get it. He is completely worthless to this club, a true waste of money on the ice. Has great value to the community, I'll give him that, but even if the Jackets retained 50% of his contract, I don't think that anyone would even trade for Boll.

For Clarkson, it doesn't look good, but I'm willing to see what he offers on a third line. I agree, he's dead money.

I've liked what I've seen from Bourque...he's trying, he's hitting, he's sat up in front of the net...don't have much issue with him....but I agree on Clarkson and Boll...

Take it for what it is worth on Boll, but I have some interesting information from a source I trust that Boll is not this off the ice angel we have made him out to be.

Don't see a lot of reason to buy someone out for 2.5 mil in the last year of their deal. Only reason to do it, honestly, is to free up a roster spot.

How about 833k? Relatively peanuts but still a decent amount.

The guy that I'd love to add would be Jacob Trouba. That would be awesome.

No idea what it would take though....

Chevy to go completely nuts. Trouba is good enough I'm not sure JJ+ would get him for us let alone some of the piece part proposals we try.

Bourque is actually a pretty good 4th liner or injury call up guy, its just his contract that is an albatross

His contract really isn't an albatross. Not good but with only 1 year remaining and only$2.5M in salary that isn't awful and could be sent to the minors to open a spot for someone. I don't see why way of needing the Cap money next year so it is really a function of sorry. Clarkson is a tough one to swallow for sure.

They're roughly equivalent statements. Winnipeg isn't giving up Trouba for anything even distantly approaching "reasonable". They consider him a superstar in the making.

The only conclusion I've come to about what happens this summer is that I have absolutely no clue. Seems that there should be trades to thin out the forward herd and bolster the defense, but every time I think this, nothing happens. I know the goal of the front office is to build a winner, but I'm just not sure how they'll do it.

Bourgue is overpaid but he realizes he has something to prove and if not he may be out of the league in 2 years. So he does have motivation to play hard.
Clarkson has a long term deal paying him crazy money (for his production). He is the one that will hurt us long-term.

I'd prefer to have neither but at least Bourque (my guess) will play hard trying to get one last deal.

You know the more I have thought about it the more I feel like the CBJ does have depth. At forward though.
Jenner Johansen Foligno
Calvert Dubinsky Atkinson
Hartnell Wennberg Dano
Letestu Anisimov Clarkson
Bourque/Tropp/Anderson/Boll/Rychel/Bjorkstrand

I think we really need to try and draft Hanifin and roll
Johnson Murray
Hanifin Savard
Tyutin Golo/Reilly/Cotton

Edit if we resign everyone

The previous poster said it would take Chevy going nuts for us to nab Trouba, if you couldn't tell. I agree.

A year ago there was an HF poll on the best player from the 2012 draft. I had just seen a lot of Trouba and was very impressed, so I voted for him, thinking he'd get a couple votes. It turns out he was the run away winner of the poll. A lot of folks think he's going to be a superstar. I think it's still uncertain but it's not hard to imagine it happening.

Bingo.

I'd add that Bourque has given questionable effort for much of his career, and now he seems to know it's do or die. I don't see much quit in Clarkson, he's just limited in other ways.

Chevy is one of the shortened nicknames for the Jets gm Kevin chevyldorf (sp?)

You can see why right? Just like we don't spell out jarmo's last name all the time

He's a very special player
