Horrible Free Agent signings. Also, team lacks any kind of identity and direction, who are they? What do they want to be?
Albert was slow walked because he has aspects of his game that have always been questioned about translating to the NHL. He finally showed he could consistently handle the AHL last year, sending him back down is not going to help him with the parts of his game he needs to accommodate for at the NHL level.AlJo's situation is another negative mark on the org's handling of the blue line this year.
He probably needs to go down and figure some things out, but they can't send him down because they burnt up his entire elc in GR and is no longer waiver exempt.
So now you have a case of a young player who can't get time with the big club because he has struggled and cant play in GR for fear of losing him.
Slow playing prospects has it down sides and this is a clear example.
Sorry man, sending AlJo to GR at this point will do nothing for him. His issue is his lack of size and strength. Nothing in GR is going to impact that.AlJo's situation is another negative mark on the org's handling of the blue line this year.

About to be 21 ... 11 nhl career pts isnt something to brag aboutThis is a 20yo, 6'3 200LBs RHD who was drafted 6OA 2 years ago and has already put up points in the NHL. And the NHL club has his rights on an ELC for years with zero season expectations right now.
He's not going for (insert B level assets) - This conversation starts a Marco Kasper +

Edvinsson and Seider playing half the game. ASP running the power play and being an offensive specialist on the 2nd pair. One of Wallinder/Buium/Johansson or a free agent rounding out the rest of the top 4. Two of the best young goalie prospects out there in Cossa and Augustine. Larkin, Kasper, Danielson down the middle as two way + competitive guys. Hope 1 or 2 of the wingers we’ve got exceeds expectations or if not look at getting one via trade.
That’s the identity of what they’re building. They just need more of the pieces to arrive and the ones that are here to keep maturing.
If someone could answer these questions the same team would be winning the cup every single season. The issue is just how much offense can Kasper/Danielson provide, and if they do provide a good amount when will that be and how old will Larkin be by then and will he still be the same.
we have them cuz they dont cost alot of long term cap , plus their lower cap hits compared to other options allowed yzerman to make his two extremely important long term core signings . and besides that , as opposed to signing better players , they are worsening our record thusly improving our long term succes via improving our draft spot . then starting next year when the team starts improving via kids developing were out of the prime 1st round draft spot for like a DECADE ! yzerman knows this and realizes these past several years where we have been hovering from 9th to 15th pix enabled us to feasibly add some very important top half peices that soon he wont have a shot at . when if he had added better players starting 2 years ago we wouldnt have been able to add kasper n danny . do you realize how important those two might become long term ? and like it or not the best way to get these top half players is feathering the gas peddle when your in a rebuild era in effort to stay near the top 15 pix . its not as if a gm is asking his team to not try , hes just making manuvers to rebuild his organization in the most feasible way possible . and i guarantee that yzerman , draper , etc KNEW EXACTLY HOW TALENTED these signings like chariot n holl were . do you really think steve yzerman whose been in the nhl 40 years thought holl n chariot were extremely valuable nhlers ?????? no he didnt , but he knew theyd fit the room / save important cap space / help raise the prospects / have contracts run out when the cap space was needed . i cant believe fans think yzerman didnt realize the exact level of talent of every player hes signed ! yes some are gambles that dont work out but hes never spent big futures or cap in these gambles . but whining fans act like the 5 mil contracts to players like copp n jt were huge blunders , when they werent at all cuz no matter whom else he'd been able to sign we wouldnt be competing for much anyway . and like previously said these guys were added to mentor prospects and fit the room during the rebuild era . but keep pitting your opinion vs yzermans on how to run an nhl team instead of respecting his career both on n off ice and realizing the guys an elite level nhl gm just like he was an elite level leader / captain on the ice
Fair questions but only time will answer it. All pressure shouldn't be on them either. Raymond, MBN, Buchelnikov, Sandin-Pellikka etc. could be offensive drivers complemented by two-way centers. The issue is just how much offense can Kasper/Danielson provide, and if they do provide a good amount when will that be and how old will Larkin be by then and will he still be the same.
