AlJo's situation is another negative mark on the org's handling of the blue line this year.

He probably needs to go down and figure some things out, but they can't send him down because they burnt up his entire elc in GR and is no longer waiver exempt.

So now you have a case of a young player who can't get time with the big club because he has struggled and cant play in GR for fear of losing him.

Slow playing prospects has it down sides and this is a clear example.
Albert was slow walked because he has aspects of his game that have always been questioned about translating to the NHL. He finally showed he could consistently handle the AHL last year, sending him back down is not going to help him with the parts of his game he needs to accommodate for at the NHL level.

Maybe with enough time he'll make the necessary adjustments at the NHL level, or maybe he won't. But I think those adjustments have to be made at the NHL level now, because it is the speed and size of the NHL game that is causing issues. The AHL just isn't going to push him in those ways.

Sorry man, sending AlJo to GR at this point will do nothing for him. His issue is his lack of size and strength. Nothing in GR is going to impact that.

Damn, you all make it sound like a prospect has never gotten better from being sent down before.

Is it a certain cure all for AlJo? No, but would be nice if we could find out right now. Don't be so certain an AHL stint can't help a guy.

This is a 20yo, 6'3 200LBs RHD who was drafted 6OA 2 years ago and has already put up points in the NHL. And the NHL club has his rights on an ELC for years with zero season expectations right now.

He's not going for (insert B level assets) - This conversation starts a Marco Kasper +
About to be 21 ... 11 nhl career pts isnt something to brag about

Nobody is trying a top 15 draft pick for him atm let alone a top 10 prospect. I agree the team has his rights and if I'm them I try and work it out and hold on to him cause they wont get anything close to what they want for him now

Horrible Free Agent signings. Also, team lacks any kind of identity and direction, who are they? What do they want to be?
This is going to be a team led by their back end.

Edvinsson and Seider playing half the game. ASP running the power play and being an offensive specialist on the 2nd pair. One of Wallinder/Buium/Johansson or a free agent rounding out the rest of the top 4. Two of the best young goalie prospects out there in Cossa and Augustine. Larkin, Kasper, Danielson down the middle as two way + competitive guys. Hope 1 or 2 of the wingers we’ve got exceeds expectations or if not look at getting one via trade.

That’s the identity of what they’re building. They just need more of the pieces to arrive and the ones that are here to keep maturing.

The issue is just how much offense can Kasper/Danielson provide, and if they do provide a good amount when will that be and how old will Larkin be by then and will he still be the same.

If someone could answer these questions the same team would be winning the cup every single season.
