I think Mr. Anisimov has become very expendable this year. We have so many centers and vogeezy's line roll out of Artie on the 4th line just made me cringe. I think our pick and Artie could land us Hanifin or perhaps Artie himself could be swapped for a solid dman. When it comes to defensemen, Prout and Tyutin can go anytime. Prout especially.

Calvert is just not a 2nd line player, never has been and I do not think he ever will be. When it comes to young guys, I expect Bjorkstrand, Rychel and Karlsson all to be pushing hard for playing time. This is a great problem to have but when we have guys like Boll and Tropp taking us space, it limits room. Give me a 4th line of Anderson/Rychel Karlsson and Clarkson. Testube is gone unfortunately, trade Artie for a dman.

Back to hibernation for me.

The previous poster said it would take Chevy going nuts for us to nab Trouba, if you couldn't tell. I agree.A year ago there was an HF poll on the best player from the 2012 draft. I had just seen a lot of Trouba and was very impressed, so I voted for him, thinking he'd get a couple votes. It turns out he was the run away winner of the poll. A lot of folks think he's going to be a superstar. I think it's still uncertain but it's not hard to imagine it happening.

Point Taken guys.

In my defense, I was going by the trade comparable of Montreal shipping Ryan McDonaugh to the NYR for Scott Gomez. :sarcasm:

Trouba is like the one player the Jets don't trade. Everyone else (literally) would go first.

Based on the untouchables thread on T&R, I'm thinking Tanev is on that list for the Canucks now and I saw Klingberg on there as Dallas' prospect. Larsson and Severen are being protected more than Merrill and Gelinas so they're probably out. Ryan Ellis really might be the most realistic chance.

RHD is a valued commodity right now and I don't see how we solve it without trading some value. I also don't see us getting a RHD with our 2015 first (though whoever we take with that pick will help the team). Maybe there's a guy there that can be good with the second but certainly not on the level of Trouba.

Well...Why the hell didn't we just draft Trouba then? This discussion should not even need to take place!

If Trouba had been drafted at #2 over Ryan Murray, I'd have been the first person calling for the head of a certain GM who was in charge at the time.

And if that had happened without the alleged trade offer from the Islanders on the table (thus giving an additional several picks)...

Because we wanted a top pairing LHD? :naughty:

Edit:
Looking back at that draft with 8 of the top 10 being D and most of them showing good things in the NHL already. That's a pretty good draft. It's really not a stretch to say if he were healthy, Murray would be our best D man. So I'd say the chances we trade him are like that of the Jets and Trouba.

Could anyone see Tanev on our blueline? Would you be willing to give up 8OA +

Value wise I'd guess that's a decent trade. I'd probably say no at this point just because we're not quite at the point with our franchise where we trade primo draft picks for prime age players. Maybe in a couple years.

I'd accept that from Vancouver if our D situation was not so dire.

On the right side Bieksa is available by the sounds of it. If I was Columbus I'd be looking to overpay for Severson.
I'm not exactly in the mood to overpay (but is anyone, ever, really? ;) ), and I have a hard time seeing NJD willingly give him up, particularly in-division.

Bieksa = Wiz.

Any truth that Hamhuis might also be available? I was reading that Hamhuis and Bieksa were too slow for the Flames, but Hamhuis still looked to my eyes like a superbly capable defender.

The local media made it out like it will either be Hamhuis or Bieksa to be traded if the Canucks decide to move a defender this off season. Edler, Tanev(signed a new contract during the season),and Sbisa(signed a new contract recently) aren't going anywhere. Weber who is a UFA will be signed according to their manager. Stanton and Clendening won't bring you much/clear much cap space. But back to Hamhuis and Bieksa. They said Bieksa, between the 2 have a better chance to being traded. Both only have 1 year left and both have NTC's. We will see if either waive their NTC. Management pressured Garrison to waive his NTC last Summer. Garrison, originally said no to St.Louis but said yes to TB after thinking it over. For Hamhuis, like Garrison chose to sign with Vancouver because he's a B.C. boy, I wonder if he wants to stay in Vancouver until his contract ends. When Garrison waived to TB, location, chance to play with players like Stamkos, and them being a Eastern Conference favorite were the reasons why he said yes. For Hamhuis, lets see. Location(From what I hear, players, especially the older guys like the city so lets say Hamhuis has no issues with Columbus). Players(Do we have enough talent that would make Hamhuis say, I want to play with those guys and be part of their core? I say toss up). Contenders(Does he think we're contenders next season in his final year of his contract?Does he think he's the missing piece for Columbus to take the next step? If Columbus can stay healthy, then yes I would think Hamhuis would think he is a missing link). With that said, I think with enough pressure by Canucks management, I can see him considering Columbus.

Benning hinted at something related to Bieksa/Hamhuis today on radio when referring to Luca Sbisa's contract.

Most of us believe Hamhuis is available (not a fan of that personally)

Would Rychel be available?

He would seem to be the most "available" of recent first round prospects, but I wouldn't, and I don't think the front office would look to move a package including him for a 32 year old dman.

Basically this and not only 32 but a player with only a year left on his contract before becoming a UFA.

I'd say no. Garrison, who was in a similar situation, was shipped out with a 7th and rights to a player (former 5th rd) for the 50th OA (2014). With that as a comp, I've got to think we would do at most Anaheim's second but really more likely try a 3rd?

Yeah that sounds low but this seems to be a sell low + NTC +borderline cap dump situation.

I was one of those guys who hated the garrison trades and still does. We all expected a first +, Tampa fans expected to be giving up a first +. Our GM tried to play it off as a cap dump, which is mind boggling to me stilll.

If its bieksa, I'd take a 7th for him to leave (completely serious). For Hamhuis, I'd expect a package with a valuable piece.

A Dman I think could be a fit is Justin Schultz (Right shot). He is an RFA, who may be traded. Not a top pair, but could be a solid fit on the second pair right side with Savard, and Prout (and Goulobef). He will not demand a large salary and will probably be close or reduced from his current $3.6M. Not sure what it would take to trade for his RFA contract?

He was put in a tough spot to fix the Edmonton blueline at a young age (25 this Summer). May play to his expectations at his next stop.

Yeah I was just using that as I comp. I think Hamhuis is worth more and the Garrison trade really really baffles me too.

Watching Hamhuis especially now at the worlds is not the same as watching him even a couple years ago

This might work, if Edmonton can get a right-side replacement. Schultz is not a solid second pair or solid anything at this point, but we don't have anyone in our system who has #1RHD upside, and I think Justin Schultz still might have it if he can get out of Edmonton. Tyler Myers has been amazing since getting out of Buffalo.

I could see a trade, something like Schultz and a 3rd for Rychel and Prout.

You can say all we need is a 7/8 Dman, if you're okay with us having a mediocre defense. I'm not okay with that.
