We could just be using different definitions here, but when I say top pair d, I mean the top 60 d men in the league, and when I say second pair, I mean 60 through 120. Imo JJ, Savard, Connauton, Tyuts, and for now Murray, are all in that 60 through 120 range, or close to it. Adding another guy in that range doesnt do a whole lot, adding someone above them would be huge.

You wanna go after Paul Martin in free agency? (just asking, not a trick question)
In my mind, Cotton is a bottom pairing.

Johansen, Dubinsky, Wennberg, Letestu, Karlsson - and Jenner's natural position is center. We've got plenty.

I think our front office would rather spend 4.5-5 million on a third line center. It would be par for the course around here.

#4 is developing nicely and I like him as the replacement to Wiz. I see no reason he can't be a 3/4 in this league. It's too bad that he's a left handed shot though. That drops him on the depth chart around here since we seem obsessed with playing right handed shots high than they should be.

If Reilly gets signed, Cotton will most certainly be a bottom pairing with PP time. Nothing wrong with that!

Reilly hasn't proved ****. Until he does something at this level he's just another in a long line of those our fans dream about. What I do know is what I see on the ice now. Until this other man-crush does something at the NHL level he's not above anyone on the depth chart.

Until recently we had a long line of people telling us how ****** Wennberg is.

Your "most certainly" comment rings quite hollow.

Couple of comments on other threads about 10 mill being tied up in dead weight with Clarkson, Boll and Bourque.

I know lots of guys don't like/think Jackets don't do buyouts but to me that is the solution.

Boll 1.7 for 2 years = 2.2 buyout spread over 4 years. .57k cap hit

Bourque 3.3 (2.5 cash) = 2.2 cap buyout (1.667 cash)...1.1 cap hit

So the Jackets could free up about $2 million dollars in cash over the next 4 years and save 1.667 on the cap for the next 2 years. Not a lot but it frees up a spot on the roster and some dollars to keep Letestu around.

Clarkson I'm afraid we are stuck with so we better hope he brings something to the party.

I am hoping that Jarmo can pull off a small miracle and include Bourque in a deal this summer. Clarkson and Boll will be back.

This sounds like me in my middle and high school days. I'd be happy to have salvaged a C or maybe even a B out of a class I was failing at the halfway point, and my mother would then point out that maybe if I had actually handed in my homework and studied in the first place, I wouldn't have had to have scrambled and busted my ass just to come out behind in the end anyway.

Don't see a lot of reason to buy someone out for 2.5 mil in the last year of their deal. Only reason to do it, honestly, is to free up a roster spot.

Not sure why we even bother with Boll. He's not worth the time or trouble we spend talking about him. It's the same argument has with every role player they've had in his mold. Limited skill, takes the occasional bad penalty. Blah, blah, blah... The franchise either values it or they don't. Whoever we replace Boll with on the 4th line really isn't going to offer much more value, might just save a few bucks.

I can make the "most certainly" comment because that's where he is now and adding Reilly isn't going to make it any easier for him to move up the depth chart.

I'm on board for this, although I don't mind if they bring McE back. Personally, I'm higher on Rychel than Milano, so I'd offer the latter before the former, but I'd prefer to find another combo of prospects/picks that could work.

Did we trade Murray?

Why are we so keen on trading Kerby? He will be good. I think it'll be a big mistake to trade him

Who knows. I wouldn't trade him.

I saw something on Milano/Rychel - they are different players. Milano is far more skilled Rychel is going to get you the dirty goals. We've got good forwards in the system peeps. Just enjoy it.

I am making no predictions on what we do with this team over the summer. I'm certainly sick and tired of all the couch-coaches and their obsessions with lines and pairings. There's a finite number of combos and the coaching staff has tried damn near all of them.

Depends on who you trade for. You do have to give to get.

That prospect forward list is something like:
Wennberg
Dano
Rychel
Bjorkstrand
Milano
Karlsson

Moutrey
Anderson
Zaar

Plenty to choose from. Though I'd say we might be better dealing from a different pool as Rychel is the only real shot it looks for LW per natural position.
