No one is arguing or complaint about the offensive stats, very impressive. However, the game is played at both ends of the rink and I’m sorry to say this but D takes priority on winning teams.
I’m not qualified but can someone else prove me wrong and post DZ and NZ metrics on our players?

Sadly the OHL holds the keys to any advanced stats pretty tightly. There's a few subscription places you can sign up for that do their own advanced stat tracking but that is as close as you get.

@MitchLBrown on twitter posts some of his tracking cards occasionally, nothing from this year posted publically on Musty or Goyette though.

Really curious what this team would look like with a solid second line that would be a threat to score just as much as the 1st line. Until the Wolves brass get two solid players for the second line they will not win a championship.

They need to find flanks for Delic. I would try to work out a deal for Lavoie from Niagara and get Vilmanis an import that may not cost as much as other bigger players out there. Toss in Filak for depth down the middle. That would mean releasing Vondras but the Wolves would need to pick a solid 19 year old goalie and another solid defender.

Musty Dvorsky Goyette
Vilmanis Delic Lavoie
Villeneuve Pharand Konyen
Yearwood Filak Coughlan

Anania Toure
DeAngelis Collins
Smith/Smyth Mania
Protz

Flores or Vandenberg
Krawchuk

Deal or release : Mauro, McCallum, Walton, Taylor, Vondras, Pryce

Acquire: Forwards- Vilmanis (Sar), Lavoie (Nia), Filak (Sar)
Acquire: Defence- Smith (Pete) or Smyth (Ott)
Acquire: Goalie- Flores or Vandeberg from Niagara both are 19 and I would imagine they would part with either guy.

That would be 4 important adds to round out the roster without having to break the bank of assets and picks.

Thoughts?

Btw- Anyone know the status on Walton today. Hurt/Sick or healthy scratch.

I like these pickups a lot more then some of the bigger names like Beck and Mayer. Curious what Filak brings to the table, I'm not that familiar with him. I also think Smith is significantly better than Smyth for what the wolves lack.

Vilmanis would be my ideal pickup if they got rid of Vondras.

My only struggle is seeing Protz not in the lineup, I think he's been one of our better more consistent dmen.

I really like Roobroeck from Oshawa down the middle on a second line as well. He would be a great add on a championship team. He’s 6’8 plays tough and is skilled… with Delic and Lavoie or Hayes that could be a hell of a second line.

I think he'd be a good pickup, but from everything I've seen, I don't think Oshawa will move him, likely and OA for them next year.

Defence first wins championships, always has. Even the high flying Oilers didn’t win their first cup until they had learned that. To make the show is extremely hard and unless you learn to play at both ends of the ice forget it, unless maybe you’re Connor Bédard. I’m not blaming Goyette for the loss by any stretch but we needed clutch there and he’s missed several open nets. Just disapointed.

Roobroek is probably a big part of the Gens plans for next season. The price might not be right.

Filak is durable. Played over 60 games in first two seasons. Hard nosed as he has 125Pims in 2 and almost half seasons. Plus has scored 35 times in that same span. I see someone with a decent touch for a bottom six and could be swapped out depending on match ups with the third line with Pharand. Another option maybe could be Jelsma from Barrie who we saw Friday night. has speed and dangerous on the PK. I would target those two guys for our bottom six. In fact Jelsma could be used used where Delic is depending on match ups or injury. Some intriguing players that may not come as big deadline deals but really do round out the line up and gives you solid leadership qualities.

There must be plans to build a second line, otherwise why not at least try;
Villneuve-Delic-Musty or Musty-Villnueve-MacCallum
and
Goyette-Dvorsky-Konyen
or just go back to;
Goyette-Delic-Konyen

Jelsma is another that the price might not be right as he is likely the colts #1 OA option

I wanna be clear, I’m not complaining about Musty’s defence. Can it be better yes, but so can almost every Wolf player be better in their own end. #27 play has drastically improved over last year and he will have a great pro career. These are kids who need to improve everytime they hit the ice. But thus far this year the overall team needs to improve defensively. Less turn overs, high guy always in place on transition relentless back pressure all the way back into our end.
For some players, I don’t see the commitment to D side of puck. We cheat, we pray the puck leaks out on the offensive side but it rarely does.
You can tell when a team’s first priority is defensive protecting the puck and our end. I don’t see it often enough with our team. We can score, now can we defend consistently with a 60 min commitment from all players?

This is such a simple solution.

Villneuve - Dvorsky - Musty
Goyette - Delic - Konyen

Dvorsky and Musty play a much more puck possession focussed game where they slow down play and try to create passing lanes, Goyette and Delic play a much higher speed rush and cycle based play.

Since joining the team, everytime they assembly the Goyette - Delic - Konyen line, it has looked great, its all three of those players at their best.

He wasn't speaking in vondras in a trade. Depending on the player, hes suggesting trade or release that particular player

I’m not sure I see how Vondras was bad today guys. Other than the rebound on the second goal. I’l watch the goals again. Tell you one thing he saved their skin big time at the end. I’m hoping it’s taken awhile for him to recover from his illness. He was sick for quite awhile. Maybe ran out of gas Friday getting back into game shape. One can hope.

Agreed. He may need the Christmas break more than anyone.

He did make that huge save in OT to keep it tied. But he needs to string some solid games together and show what he's made of, and that needs to happen ASAP. Goalie is a thankless position, some nights you can be the hero and other nights you can be the bum. It's tough, especially if his play lately has been illness related. That Barrie game to get pulled like that yikes, had to be done. Not many games left between now and the trade deadline. Rooting for the kid to turn things around. But in a "go for it" year, goaltending is not a position you want to mess around with. Needs to be solidified.

As a former goalie who played I think several teams in the OhL has poor management of goalies since Covid and probably before.
In Finland goalies are treated as a specialty position with daily goalie coaching, mindset work, money invested.
I don’t know what happens in Sudbury but I know lots of teams in the O don’t even have full-time goalie coaches or regular training.
How do you expect these kids (yes kids) to carry teams if you don’t invest in them. Look at the performance of some of the 03 04 goalies this year, great goalies but they need to be treated as a specialty position and coached as such not just shooter tooters as many teams do.
Also overseas they develop good young goalies within orgs. Miss is proving that this can work. Take a young kid work with him rather than bring in a one and done. Krawchuk could have been a solid starter this year if he was given the chance to develop ratherr than bring in Brassard to patch that mess over.. Such excessively bad decision making between the pipes and it isn’t just in Sudbury

Vondras can’t be dealt
Why can’t Vondras be dealt? I for one do not see him as our starter moving forward, he will be backup if you cannot trade him. Wolves will make a move for a goalie before the Christmas break, possibly within the next week imo. One person posted about the goalies out of Niagra and I agree. Flores may be a good fit depending on price.

Many goalies stick with one tutor that they have a good working relationship with. These days, it is easy and effective to watch video and communicate on-line.
Palazeese instructs several OHL goalies.

First year imports cannot be traded until (after Christmas break or Jan 1, and after world jr tournaments if involved).

I'm concerned with our goaltending like many of you. If my math is correct, we have 6 games left before the Christmas break.

I think if Vondras is given the start, he needs to finish this stretch with at least 4 really good games for my faith in him to come back.

I've been a Chucky fan since last year, and really thought he had the potential to be our starter this year If Vondras struggles, where do we go from here? I've done some digging and here are my favourite Goalies around the league that we might be able to deal. Let me know what you think.

- Damien Slavik - Guelph Storm

- One of the two goalies from Ottawa - Collin MacKenzie or Max Donoso

- Charlie Schenkel - Sault Greyhounds

I think we would have to trade something significant for any of these guys but what else can we do? You dont want to bring in someone worse than Vondras and look silly

I would take Flores or Vandenberg over Schenkel who happens to be the starter for a contender.
If the wolves goalies cannot be counted on, and Flores or Vandenberg don’t feel like the solution; the only solution might be make an offer that Ottawa or NB cannot refuse.

For now, ease the pressure on the goalies by breaking up the top line to form two very good lines and one legitimate checking line.
