great two periods. Blew it in the third, Chromiak and Robinson had a rough third period, not sure on pairing these two. Keep Toure on Defence, need him back there.Y

PP still looks like crap as well.
When I saw the pairing of Robinson and Chromiak I had that feeling of impending doom. You don't know when but you know it is going to self destruct.Toure and Collins have been our best Defencemen but the coaches decided that Toure would be rewarded as a 4th line checking winger.Toure should be on every penalty kill and Holmes should be the defenceman on the lead pp unit.

Going to be an exciting game Friday. Not many seats left. Another statement game against a highly skilled Saginaw team. Misa and Mintyukov are two must see players. Hope the Wolves play a strong 60 minutes full team effort
Well they played 40...

You must of been watching a totally different game than I was! Saginaw was all over them. Thornton was huge for Barrie and the difference. Wolves better have the full energy on display tonight. Can’t let off the gas at all or they will be in trouble. And yes Ranger needs to be solid and the Wolves must stay out of the penalty box.

WJ
I guess Ranger was not solid enough. Major factor in the loss imo. Unfortunate because the Wolves played very sound hockey for the first 40. Interesting to see that a time out was not used when the Wolves began to chase the play after the first and second goal. McNamara sure got in Robinsons head and made him pay for it. Not much more to say!!!

They're probably looking at it as development. Holmes vs Mania.

Robinson had a decent game until the 3rd I think. He then looked disinterested and it showed. On that 1st Saginaw goal, I'm not sure what he was trying to accomplish on that miss check, which in turn took him out of position. Brutal.

We just won’t win a lot of games if the opposing team’s goalie is always better than ours. 4 goals on 7 shots in the third. Lennox was stellar and square all game. The team wasn’t the same after a few easy goals early in the third.

Any news on when young Gaulton is back from injury? Not suggesting hell be a differance maker this year he is too young, but when I played sometimes having a young guy behind you made you work that little bit harder
And listen Im not saying it is all Rangers fault but sometimes looking back over your shoulder keeps you just that little bit sharper

Papineau has to make a move soon, Defence is crowed now, someone needs to get moved. Need an upgrade in backup goalie or a number 1. Wolves are in 9th spot now, Oshawa and Hamilton playing well of late, we can't afford fall back in the standings.

One thing that wasn't mentioned and I think needs to be is how young Villeneuve handled himself in a nice tilt with a 19 year old dman in Gauveraux. He is one tough cookie that is only going to be a beast in the coming years in this league.

Looking back at what Barrie did going into the season. They picked up Thornton in late June from Sarnia for a 2nd (23), 3rd(24) and 5th(26) then they went and picked a quality back up in West in August from Erie for a 15th round pick. West has been decent and has played in 11 games. Sudbury picked up Ranger for a 4th in 2023 and then signed their first pick in the U18 draft. Leaving out Morrow, Rossi which they used high enough picks on. They could of looked for another goalie early on such as Costanzo who went for only a 4th and a 12th rounder. He was drafted high by Niagara and has played some games. I guess Sudbury just felt confident enough in running with Krawchuck behind Ranger. The only problem with Ranger is that he never truly played as number #1 guy his entire career in Missy and has a career 50-60 games. He wasn't a Weekes a Pallazeeze, Timpano, etc... Could be that plan back fired a bit for Sudbury.

I think it has back fired. They probably want to develop their own but to me they put eggs all in one basket. Gambled on Week's and came out okay. Goal is to make playoffs you got to have 1/2 tandem. Missy traded their number 2 not their number 1. He probably felt the pressure build last night watching Lennox stop almost anything, and he couldn't match it. Lennox had to make more difficult saves in my opinion.

Now it seems not only do you need to fine-tune the forward position, defense, and now between the pipes. That's alot of work. I'll be curious to see how Papineau makes this team better in a few weeks.

He will have to drop a 19 year old forward and one 19 year old dman. Pick up some picks or possibly an 18 year old forward. Or if Dvorsky reports after the WJC then just picks will be fine.

No idea what he's thinking but they'd have to see if they're okay without Holmes back there. Soo traded him for a reason and his play hasn't gotten him an NHL contract. Looking back at that trade not sure how we made out with the exception of the 2nd round pick. Robinson, you're not getting back that 3rd you gave up for him( hard swallow)

Up front I guess you decide who's more valuable. Larmand or McCallum.

I just feel the roster construction is flawed which I've said before. At some point Papineau will have to come to the realization hes made some poor picks in draft. Beside the obvious high picks that lead this team.

As it is now it's pretty much the Musty line and have others chip in where they can. That need to be rectified imo.

The first two periods showed what the teamcan be
Nice cohesion between front and back, controlled breakouts, defence closing gaps, and backchecking,
Lousy power play.lots of missed opportunities
Third period showed what it is, average goaltending, defensive breakdowns and every pass out of the zone 100 ft to a lone forward with minimal support, lousy powerplay.
Was there one high to low to slot pass on any power play was it all pass between the top three slowly into a non shooting position and the guys without the puck just standing and watching?
Chromiak has a way to go but skating is better as is puckhandling. Except for the 3 minute shift in the third for goyette and Musty, I thought Musty played well. McCallum.um also. Villeneuve will be good.
If stuck with just 11 forwards again, who do you move up so toure can go back. I think toure is the choice at forward of this bunch

It was a tough one for Musty last night. He didn’t have his legs. I think that line needs a top RW asap. Konyen would look better on a second line. Its too quick for him with Goyette and Musty. Why not try McCallum until Papineau makes a few trades ?

A top right winger wouldn't be bad at all, the problem is imo Konyen won't give you much on that second line. Can't think of anyone on the current roster they could replace him in that slot.

Toure is far more valuable on Defence, he did ok on forward. Defence is overcrowded right now need to move one, to make room. We're at 8 D right now, I'm not in favour going 7 D, if it means one of the D has to play forward. They could have rotated 7 D last game, could of help the Wolves in the third.
