Why is our Power Play struggling? Delic being hurt, hurts! 3 forwards and two D or 4 and one? Which of our D are best suited to be positioned at top of Umbrella? Last game against OS it was Mania. He has all the tools as he is agile and fast but he’ll need more reps as he struggled to manage the puck last game as he lost control and zone when it bobbled over his stick a few times and when he tried to dish to Musty (at least twice) the pass was on wrong side of Musty’s body (not in sweet spot) so Musty fed a return pass. Little things, but difference makers when you need to improve.
Chromiack at this point manages and distributes the puck better than Mania but his shot isn’t hard/fast but he can get it to the net through traffic.
Holmes good distributor with a booming shot but not as agile or quick.
Collins processes extremely well and will win most puck battles with above average quickness but puck management might be where he needs to improve.
Toure, all the tools but again needs to improve puck management.
Good news is we can only improve. So far Chromiack is my choice for PP QB, any other thoughts?
I would like to see Toure have a shot I believe he is our leading scoring D. Right now I feel more comfortable with Holmes or Collins.. Mania has all the tools to run the PP, I think needs to be more assertive and make better decisions. Chromiak to me not ready, very raw, seems off balance on his skates under pressure, but I can see in future when he gets stronger.

1/3 of the season in the books, and Papineau has Sudbury in the hunt for Roobroeck..

I think back last year when the Wolves started to find some success on the PP after the deadline and I recall Holmes and Robinson running the PP maybe they should try and give this another go. I don’t believe using Chromiak or Mania on the first unit is going to do anything this year. Maybe have one of those guys with Goyette at the point. I wouldn’t have any other forward there. McCallum isn’t smart enough or has the hands, Konyen isn’t strong enough or quick thinking enough when being pressured. DeGrazia is maybe the only other one. He has the speed and generally can handle the puck. Unless of course the Wolves make a deal and get a guy who immediately takes over that role.

He should have gotten EA last year along with Misa, his numbers were better leading up to the OHL cup.

If it comes down to that, Wolves would gladly take him to help improve the team for next season. Papineau can make the selection and then immediately after Dario can name a new GM

must win, and crazy amount of goals.
Hopefully Wolves can start stringing some wins together

I would say that 17yr old Musty has turned the corner and is a true #1 pick. Besides the impressive point streak, his unselfishness with beautiful apples all over the ice; I’m most impressed with his back checking and D zone effort. Anybody doubt his A Class ranking? Playing his way into top 10 Draft pick….
That's been a huge improvement in Musty's game from last season. Not trying to always force the play and trying to deke through everyone, but now he's using his teammates, making plays and setting guys up. His passing and playmaking skills have improved immensely

7 point game for Musty....impressive.
I believe that ties him for the Wolves record for points in a game.

MOST POINTS IN ONE GAME 7
Hector MariniVs Ottawa 67's at Sudbury Oct 8,1976
Ron DuguayVs Toronto Marlboros at Toronto Mar 13,1977
Norm MilleyVs Barrie Colts at Sudbury Dec 18,1998
Mike FisherVs Barrie Colts at Sudbury Dec 18,1998

Nice to see the boys have a bit of fun scoring 13 goals following a 4 game skid. Nice bumps to the point totals.

I've been noticing a trend for the past while that they have big games at home when I am not there :sarcasm:

With 2 goals today Goyette is #6 in OHL (goal) scoring with 17 goals in 24 games.

Not taking the result as them turning a completely new leaf given how bad Niagara was. However that was definitely a blast of a game to watch.

Where's our Wolves fan friend who continues to rant about how much better Niagra's youth is then Sudburys???? I guess all the good players were scratched.

Yes fun to watch for sure! Niagara is a mess. Players appeared demoralized. Not sure why Niagara is applying for the Memorial Cup next year. They have nothing there other than Fimis and He.

Wolves needed that explosion of offence today. Really was due considering how unlucky a lot of the bounces for them in the Owen Sound game and North Bay match. One thing to take from this game is how they did it without some players. Assadourian, Delic, Walton and Anania. Throw in Derbidge too. Something to think about if the Wolves want to make a small deal to bring in a solid 18 year old for next year. Maybe an 18 year old goalie as well.

Wolves will need to move out some 19 year old soon and most certain by the deadline as they can't bring that many back next year.

Toure
Holmes
Anania

Boudreau
Larmand
McCallum

Who out of these 6 will return as OA's. My guess is on Holmes, Toure and between Larmand and McCallum. Wolves will lose Robinson, Ranger and DeGrazia and three 19 year olds next year. They need to bring in at least one or two 18 year olds at the deadline IMO.

If they can add Dvorksy after the World Juniors that would be massive!

*Not sure who said Niagara's youth is better than ours. But that's not well thought out statement!

I'd go with Anania, Larmand, Toure. I'd move Holmes at deadline.

Youth or 2003-04 born? I’ve said Niagara was built for 2023-24, and wolves 2024-25. I’ve also said NB might have the best ‘04 class overall

Yes and he doesn't move the needle for me for a player who's been in the league for awhile and team captain.
Holmes is the only D that can rifle it from the point. He is not spectacular but normally is steady and is not a turnover machine. His exit passes out of the dzone are accurate and his passes in the ozone are on the tape.Reliable is a rare commodity on our team.

I know there have been a lot of not so good posts on here about McCallum over the years, but he has played some of his best hockey in Sudbury over the last 4 weeks….don’t discount him as an OA…

Can’t agree more he is the spark plug on this team and he takes a lot of bumps and bruises for this team and certainly draws his fair share of penalties. I think the coaches also see this by his ice time.

I wonder if this is a Wolves record?
Besides Musty's record performance, the 13 goals is the most this season by any CHL team this season. But, I am wondering if the team has ever scored 13 goals in a game before.... I remember the odd 10 goal and maybe a few 9 goal games trying to get the 10th... but 13? Anyone?

Definitely been playing well lately. Took a really dumb cross-checking penalty on Friday that showed his bonehead tendencies though. Hopefully, he keeps up this place, if he does they should look to move him at the deadline for a decent return.
