Now we have to ensure we make a run next year. Don’t care if we sell all our picks next year. I want to see a winner. I will take sucking for two years for that.

Amen to that!

It's the cycle game. Make a strong run next season. ALL IN. Following season you deal 19 year olds Musty, Pharand, Mania etc., recoup picks and tank. Rinse and repeat

Yeah, I loved Holmes in the Soo, but he never seemed to reach his potential as a top pairing D. So frustrating as he had all the tools. Just wondered if he had progressed at all in the last year.

Some games he looked sound and others he was caught flat footed and burned. Not sure if he was injured or a bit unconditioned.

That's not true. You missed 1 year of Jacob Holmes, your captain.

Great return on this deal. Was Holmes playing top 2 pairing for you guys, or was it more 3/4?

This is true, 1 year of Holmes with the Wolves should be included. I corrected it

Coming full circle, Jack Thompson deal breaks down to be

2nd 22
2nd 24
2nd 25
3rd 26
4th 23
6th 25
Boudreau
1 year of Holmes
Yes it’s looking better now. Credit. If we get a could get a decent return for Boudreau it would really be good.

However remember all the picks for Pezz and OGrady then sent them all to Ottawa for Stratis and Sokolov to Barrie and we ended giving up a 2nd as well. So it shall be seen what he does.

I say he unloads more pieces now for more picks and pick up one valuable 18 year old forward. And if able another import that becomes expendable to help the team the rest of the year.

Wolves need to make the playoffs however losing some good people is usually a bit of downer in the room. Holmes was a good person on and off the ice. Sometimes that’s a huge piece. However the amount of picks was too hard to pass up for him. It does make the Thompson trade much more worth it.

No not if you have good management. How often does London “suck” Don’t buy it. By your logic North Bay should be in the toilet for a couple years and so should every other team that goes for it. Draft well and that doesn’t happen. Sam Mcmaster used to say as much. Smart management and you should be able to remain competitive. Look at Hamilton. Won the league and would still make the playoffs for sure if they didn’t sell. How often in recent years has Ottawa sucked? Look at their cupboard! That’s management. It all starts from the top.
You do make a good point about changing the dynamics in the room though.

I'm thinking Delic gets a letter and they go the rest of the year without a captain?

I don’t know, but you wonder if it sends a message to the players that we don’t expect this year to be the year even though it should’ve maybe been obvious I’m not sure that’s all the players saw it. I know when we traded Pizzetta we played in Barry the next night and I think we got shellacked 10 nothing or something. Kids were lost.

Depends if he adds in the next few days.

Yes but sometimes adding is even worse, if it’s the wrong fit. Let’s think positive but remember Faksa and Carrick? Team was doing ok then imploded and I’m sure personalities and team dynamics were at play.

Holmes doesn’t make the wolves a weaker team at all

Id be very surprised if he done. I truly don't think so. He needs to ensure wolves are in the playoffs. He's be smart to try and add a tender. I dont know if his job is in jeopardy but hes the only one left to pay the piper. It won't be Derek. It's all on him now.

Certainly did t make the that much better IMO.

Practice this afternoon looked like a focus and breakouts and zone entries. It was also heavy on skating. One drill without pucks was skate hard to the offensive zone lane, switch to 9ther side like forechecking and then back hard to your own zone. It took about 30 seconds and I assume meant to imitate a shift.

After main practice assistants took over for "fun time " bag skating, agility drills, shooting practice whatever skills individuals wanted to work on. Collins and Chromiak doing some interesting Edgework, turning, front to back and backwards to front drills. One of the assistants was recording on the phone and then giving immediate feedback.

New faces - the other Walton and a third goalie (gaulton). The third goalie only out at the end and seemed to be moving gingerly which made wonder if it was Gaulton.

I thought it was interesting that Derek was definitely in charge of formal part and then left and let the assistants take over.

Gaulton out another month.

All Fixter all the time. No one was helping that group but it’s worse when you’re adding a player who doesn’t want to be there and you have to convince him to come. Player should be at the very least interested in going to the proposed team

Another rumour been hearing Knights talking to Wolves about Mccallum
He'd be a nice piece for them. Hopefully a younger player in return. Don't trust hunters vs Papineau on trading draft picks. They've fleeced us a few times.
