Wasn't sure Paps had it in him to flip Holmes. But the breakdown on the Thompson trade looks much better if the Wolves landed a good haul of good picks for Holmes

correct, but he still shoud have gotten more for thompson.
I would say whatever the Windsor return is will be added to the total return for JT. Plus Walton and two serviceable players for two seasons. As Captain, what Holmes (if trade is true) brought to the team had a positive impact off the ice as well. High character people are hard to find sometimes…just saying.

im comparing to what else he had on the table from other teams at the time, it would have brought more picks and younger, higher end players, but he pushed to hard and teams walked.

Papineau needs to build a true contender on the ice for next season. Anything less is unacceptable

I agree, JT was a valuable commodity and I have no problem with a GM asking for the moon, but coming off a pandemic teams were not paying the prices being paid this year. What would JT pull this year? Picks back for Holmes will help our team prepare for next season.

Given what Stillman, McTavish, etc went for, not sure you can say that. Wolves just got jobbed for Thompson, mediocre 2nd pairing D, mediocre 3rd line winger and a 2nd.

everyone was happy with the trade after a month in now we should have gotten more
There was plenty of people in this thread calling the trade bad at first. By the end of the season, most of us thought it was ok. But both Holmes and Boudreau look significantly worse this year then they did at the end of last.

Do NOT trade Walton.

Stillman and McTavish were out liars last year that great returns and I would say we did better than Hamilton as we got a 1st Rounder back in Pharand. But trades thus far for lesser players are pulling close to those trades…

Yes and as said several of us didn’t like the trade then, and even less now. Gimme a break should have got way more but Papineau fawked around until the twelfth hour.

I know some people want to keep McCallum and have him back as an OA next season, but the going prices right now, I would be listening and giving some serious thought if the right offer came along

The 12th hour didn’t hurt on the Stillman trade…or was that a terrible trade as well?

No, at least for me, he goes nowhere as he could be a key cog next year on a contending team. In the words of Vito Corleone, the offer would have to be too good to refuse, even then. Picks are intangibles and crap shoots, people need to remember that. All the picks in the world don’t matter if they’re not used properly.

You're right but they're also wanting to make the playoffs and probably think he helps their cause. It's a fine line...

The plan would be to use the picks properly lol. But I get what you're saying. McCallum has turned into a strong player for this team. Almost a point per game guy now, and playing much smarter and more disciplined hockey

Apples and oranges. Worked in our favour that Oake had the blinders on for Stillman. Wasn’t the case with any other GM’s. I’ve personally said all I want to about Papineau. In my opinion he’s made more bad deals/decisions than good. Take a look at the standings this year, and most recent years. Tells a tale. As far as the outlier which was when we had Byfield we still would’ve went nowhere as we had zero goaltending, again a fail by Papineau.

You think a better return for Holmes than Thompson?

Bird in hand is worth two in the bush and to me he is a Swiss Army knife and helps give the team an identity. Also he drives teams crazy which is great now that he isn’t taking stupid penalties all the time.

Not sure anyone wants to play the role of Oake this year.

Right on with Oake. He was in a giving mood.
