I still dislike the look of the Panarin-Strome-Kaako line. It just doesn’t mesh all that well. I’d really like to see Blais there as a different type of player to compliment that line. That allows Kaako to play with Goodrow and Chytil.

Chytil was utterly disappointing in that game. These young kids need to take a step or they are going to be supplanted by these veteran energy guys who fill roles soon.

Thats what any line will look like when Panarin turns the puck over like he did tonight. It won't matter who his line mates are.

If theres a spot up top for Blais to take in the top 6, its on RW with Zibanejad.

Its just the fact that there is just one puck and Strome and Panarin like to have it. They use that 3rd guy for puck retrieval like you said and to play off of for creating some space but Kaako just doesn’t play that type of game. It’s why they excelled with Fast. Blais can play that same style…

Then what do you do with Kakko
You could try Laf-Zib-Kakko and bump Kreider down but ultimately I see it as more of a problem going forward with the future of the team and why Strome is ultimately kind of an awkward fit long term

e: I actually think there's no reason they couldn't be good and effective with a player like Kakko, they've just gotten used to playing a certain way. They, or at least Panarin, is talented enough to make adjustments and utilize Kakko's skills better, they just need to actually do it

oh and yeah Panarin was terrible tonight for most of the game
that he can be terrible and then snip a goal like nothing is a testimate to how good he is but...maybe don't be terrible like that

I hear the name Blais, and it reminds me of this character from an older movie I love:

You are not incorrect but I guess they should give that line a good 10 games or so to see if it can develop chemistry. It is our most important line when it comes to the offensive side of the game so if Kakko isn't a fit Goodrow or Blais will surely fill that need to have a a puck retrieval hound that defers to Strome and Panarin.

Kakko has surely shown he is even improved from last year (his stride/skating). the other big two (Chytil/Laf) especially the latter will have to just wait and see once the regular season starts.
Chytil is gonna have some decent talent playing with him no matter what the lineup is so hopefully he can at the very least be an effective 3rd line Center and I think he will.

This is how I would have it. My mid summer projections for our lines were:

Laf - Zib - KK
Bread - Strome - Blais/Goodrow
Kreider - Chytil - Goodrow/Blais/Kravtsov
Reaves/Hunt - Rooney - Blais/Kravstov

I anticipated it would be Goodrow on the Panarin line, Kravtsov with Kreider/Chytil and Blais on the 4th line, but with it’s not looking impossible for both Blais and Goodrow to grab top nine spots.

I really don't get the concern for Laf or Chytil. Laf will turn the ripe old age of 20 in a few days and is still learning. He will be fine, just too much talent. I'm hoping for 60 points this year. Chytil may not be the 2nd line center that we want him to be but if his ceiling is a 45 point 3rd line pivot then thats ok. He had a couple of grade A chances tonight but they didn't go in unfortunately. Not everybody is going to be an all star.

Blais is awesome. We needed a guy like him for such a long time.

Goodrow is coming around as well. We will have a hard nosed 4th line if they keep this up. Dangerous.

I hope Reaves is fine. He seems like a phenomenal locker room presence and a great guy in general.

Tinordi skates like a tank stuck in quicksand.. I hope he's our #7.

Can't wait for the season to start already. LGR!

Blais: yes.
Goodrow: yes.
Reaves: yes.
Tinordi: … #9 or worse

Let’s say, Fox, Lindy, Miller, Trouba, Nemeth, Lundkvist end up being our main 6. Frankly, I would prefer Bitetto and Hajek both over Tinordi (I’m excluding options like Jones because I’m talking about guys I’m okay with sitting in the press box). If that played out, where Bitteto and Hajek were ahead of him, Tinordi would hit waivers, at which point - if we were so injured as to be on the #9 guy on our depth chart - I’d much rather just call up Jones or Schneider than Tinordi. Which essentially means Tinordi could cease to exist this very moment and it would be inconsequential

To be fair, Tinordi is a guy who is guaranteed a spot, and as a vet he’s just using preseason to get up to speed.
We know what kind of player he is and he’s perfect as 7D.
I don’t think there’s much to read into his preseason.

I mean, I agree regarding preseason, but a #7 has essentially been his peak. Bitteto was pretty serviceable as a #7 and Hajek has shown decent flashes (relative to a #7 role) as well. I just don’t know if Tinordi is any better. I guess it depends on who is injured which one you insert.

def not at all worried about laf...he's prob a guy that takes a bit longer to get going...his game is so intuitive with how he reads the play and his hands are so good, but easy to see both those things needing a bit to get game speed timing and touch back. the single biggest area he needed to improve was his skating, especially acceleration, balance in small areas, and ability to turn and go the other way. he's looked a lot better in all of them. and then he's a pretty emotional player and thrives on intensity which is all pretty absent in preseason. if we're sitting 20 games in and he has 6 points and isn't generating anything i'd have some concerns. i'd guess we see a much more involved performance in washington from him.

chytil is also fine. its expectations that are probably too high...i think we need to start looking at him as a shutdown c who has some legit skill and games he looks like a top 6 player, but not a guy you want relied on to produce at a top 6 clip over a season. if he develops into more thats awesome, but it shouldn't be whats expected. besides, a legit matchup c w/ size and speed like that and add some offense is every bit as valuable as a 2c. thats what teams who win trophies have.

Unfortunately, Hajek, while being a more “skilled” player than Tinordi, doesn’t actually offer a coach much more than decent positional play.
While a guy like Tinordi can do that (sure, probably not quite as well as Hajek) along with being able to punch opponents lights out. So the coach usually goes with the guy who can punch light out.
If Hajek could actually figure out how to make more noise offensively, or add some “intimidation” to his game, Gallant might raise an eyebrow. But so far, Hajek has been Libor-ing :)

Much credit for putting your money where your mouth is. I would be cool with it if you set up somehow anyone who wanted to donate 5, 10,15 bucks whatever to cover at least some of the cost of the jersey.

I appreciate the sentiment. I’m perfectly happy to hook a brother up with a sweater and sew some goodwill and amusement among the NYR faithful without y’all chipping in.

But I do think it would be cool to do something this coming holiday season, each within their own means, that continued that trend of paying it forward to your fellow HF brothers. There’s a great community here, which for many of us is a 365 day thing and not just an in-season or game night participation. The past two years have been some of the craziest I’m sure some of us have seen. Certainly not easy. I think it’s great when we learn/remember how to not take things for granted.

Maybe I’m just being a sap because I’m finally expecting my first child. Maybe I’m just missing my military days. Either way, I think these boards have some great camaraderie and it deserves to be celebrated now and again.

Okey why did Kreider and PK "fight" twice. The nhl highlights showed it with no context at all.
