As of right now? He's 21 year old man. He's not 15 years old anymore. He's 21 years old and doing the same **** he did as a kid.

I don't know many people at 21 that were finished products emotionally. I haven't heard of any racist or homophobic incidents since juniors, so it seems like his problems currently boil down to him being a hothead who lacks self-control.

After loosing Lindberg, now Stepan...there has to be another move coming.

No way we go from rolling 4 solid lines, down grading to 1 top line with ZBad and an iffy 2nd line lead by Hayes and possibly a rookie on the 4th with Boo.

7 + 21 + + for MacKinnon?

7 + 21 for 3OA if Patrick falls?

Left field young C that no one is talking about?

Yeah I could understand if something slipped out against an opponent, **** happens in the heat of battle.

But against a teammate? Thats pretty bad and he hasn't exactly wised up.

Meh, hopefully it was just a maturity issue.

Hate to break it to people on here, but not everyone is perfect and fully matured and great person in their teens. Some people are immature and need to grow up. Calling him a homophobic racist person because he used slurs as a teenager is pretty unfair IMO. Calling him a piece of **** is unfair, this isn't Voynov here.

This is a chance for Deangelo to grow up and shed his reputation.

first of all Raanta has hardly any trade value, and the point of the Stepan trade was to free up more Cap space.

We've seen that the core we had wasn't going to get it done, we went as far as we could in 2014 and 2015, Stepan wasnt going to improve anymore.

It all depends on how we spend this cap space and how we draft.

Gotta say, its strange having 2 1st rounders

I always liked Stepan but let's face it he wasn't good last season. With 4X6.5 left and activation of his NTC looming it was now or never to make a decision on him. So I understand the decision here but maybe the return is a bit underwhelming.
I agree. The past 2 years I felt his game has slid. also he is slow as hell, cant win faceoffs, and kills every pp we get

hes not stupid. at all.

immature isnt stupid.

he needs to grow up and control his emotions.

skills wise, he's very talented. he's a smooth, poised, puck controlling damn who makes great reads on the pp point and can drive the play from blue line.

hes not dumb. he can actually play hockey.

Kevin Hayes can play hockey as well, contrary to some thoughts on here.

He's still an idiot though.

This was the exact base trade I offered some of you guys. ;) We'll take good care of Stepan, keep Tony D under control and you'll have a hell of a player. We make the best trade partners <3

I knew he wouldn't get the kings ransom that some of you were hoping for on here. Stepan just never had that kind of value.

i think the 7th is part of a deal to bring back a true 1C

we cant wait for this pick to develop. we have mika and hayes in the middle.

this is a chance to bring in a better pivot who can step in right away.

who's the guy they want though ?

By the way , DeAngelo IS the "err ma god why dun we get no second pick too?"

Anyway, unless the Rangers have their eyes on one of the massive UFAs in the next 2 years, this trade was a long term move. Gonna have embrace the suck for a bit. T_T

Not only that, but there's still brain development going on into a persons early 20s.

Possible. But I'm not sure this isn't a team that realized flipping picks for a "right now" guy isn't really the answer.

That's not to say they won't look to add depth. But I don't think they're flipping picks for guys.

If they wanted to do that, they would've already packaged Stepan and 21 for that guy.

If they are going to make this trade, they should just keep going that direction.

This, like last years Brassard trade, has some potential to make the team younger and possibly even more talented, but if it's just a one off thing where now all of a sudden they are keeping Nash self renting him if in playoff position, signing UFAs to help get to that position and all that goes along with that it just ends up the same way it has been for the past two years, possibly a good team but nothing that compares to the overall rosters of the top contenders.

seriously? stepan is on the decline people, hes not just going to wake up and become a faster player

What is this obsession with Stepan declining? He's 26 years old. He's not declining. In fact, he's likely still going to improve his all-around game over the next few seasons.

He's a consistent 50+ point player. I don't understand why we look past the fact that he puts up points and plays great defense (this season aside).

Deangelo is skilled, but what is with this organizations infatuation with acquiring stupid hockey players?

Zibanejad, Hayes, Deangelo, Miller - all immensively talented with half a brain.

How is Deangelo a dumb hockey player? Have you ever seen him play? I've watched him for years and he his not only incredibly skilled but seems to have quite a high hockey IQ. His off-ice antics do not make him a stupid hockey player and frankly that play with the ref last year was slightly overblown imo. Should it have happened, absolutely not, but he's young and certainly not a lost hope.

I also truly think you are confusing stupid with young/immature. Miller has made massive strides. Zibanejad is also not stupid. Hayes is sometimes lazy and Kreider is probably dumb (you seem to not have included him in your list though).

Maybe your problem is comparing these guys to Stepan who probably has one of the highest "hockey IQ's" in the league and is not a practical bar for people to be compared to. It has also helped to make up for his lack of skillset in other areas (see: Skating).

Anyways, I think this trade is fine. Rangers needed a shake-up and get 2 really promising pieces. DeAngelo is being hugely underrated in here and some people seem to not even focus on him being part of the trade acting like it's only the 7OA. DeAngelo is the central part of this trade. He has incredible upside. I also don't see why people are penciling in Shattenkirk. He makes little to no sense at this point.

Fair deal for both sides I think. I really think Tony D is going to impress you guys, at least on the ice. Kid has skill and skating for days. He also plays a lot bigger than he is. He does seem to be a bit of a hothead at times, but only as far as temper, with the puck his decision making is unflappable. His D isn't amazing, but not as bad as most say. He does struggle a bit because he doesn't have much reach.

As far as the off ice stuff it's really impossible to say. He did have that suspension way back in juniors and some trouble in Tampa, but nothing off ice was reported here. He was scratched a few times but it's hard to tell if those were outbursts or Tippett being Tippett. He did have that suspension for shoving the officials hands away, but again that goes back to him being a hot head.

I hope people actually read the bolded, third time being traded hopefully its the last kick in the ass he needs. Why the political climate in this country has anything to do with his ability to play hockey is beyond me; and I guess everyone that has a problem with something he did in juniors as an 18 year old walked the straightest line and never got in trouble as a kid. As of right now he's done absolutely nothing wrong while being a member of this team so I'm personally gonna go off that.

So much for that "bidding war" people talked up, and how GMJG would have better offers for step.

That being said no one can judge this trade in a vacuum, GMs usually have a plan mapped out over the course of a summer. Let's let that play out first...
