I think it's more the Rangers were FINALLY looking to fill that black hole, the offensive RD defenseman, that we have been looking for over a decade. And they got it.

Sure. By taking a chance on a guy who goes after his own teammates and officials. Great way to fill a hole.

The good thing is that I think leadership here can handle him if need be.

Then perhaps he can show some form of improvement. Considering he was just again suspended for physical abuse of an official shows me that he's yet to begin on that.

So instead, everyone should just accept he's a worthless piece of garbage and awful human being and forget all about him, right? That's totally the right way to handle a kid with maturity issues.

Fair deal for both sides I think. I really think Tony D is going to impress you guys, at least on the ice. Kid has skill and skating for days. He also plays a lot bigger than he is. He does seem to be a bit of a hothead at times, but only as far as temper, with the puck his decision making is unflappable. His D isn't amazing, but not as bad as most say. He does struggle a bit because he doesn't have much reach.

As far as the off ice stuff it's really impossible to say. He did have that suspension way back in juniors and some trouble in Tampa, but nothing off ice was reported here. He was scratched a few times but it's hard to tell if those were outbursts or Tippett being Tippett. He did have that suspension for shoving the officials hands away, but again that goes back to him being a hot head.

He was a teenager when he said those things. Saying something racist or homophobic doesn't necessarily make you such, particularly when you're still emotionally immature. I won't excuse him simply because of his age but I won't give him the "awful human being" indictment because that's just silly, incredibly judgmental and borderline ignorant (as great people do or say bad things on occasion). I mean ****, I'm glad I haven't lived under a microscope, because if you looked at a teenage 2k2 I'm sure you'd have even more spiteful things to say.

He got suspended last year for pushing an official.

Dude needs to grow up. You have to figure out how to be a decent person at some level to have a long career

I don't want a homophobic racist on my team. I'll take a cheap or dirty player. Or a guy who says some borderline **** to get under someone's skin. DeAngelo is an awful human being. He shouldn't have the privilege of wearing this jersey.

Rarely will I ever object to a player on the team I root for. I've defended all sorts of bad characters. But DeAngelo's outright bigotry is just part of a pattern of character flaws he has.

If he was just a dirtbag? Cool. All the merrier. Attaching his massive personality flaws and racism? Blech.

Getzlaf is over 30 and said it in the playoffs this year. It happens

Guys there is A LOT of talent with DeAngelo.

For a moment, forget about the other crap, this kid has some major upside.

Definitely some flaws, and those things may very well hinder his ability to advance, but this kid isn't just a throw-in.

This is the part I'm somewhat worried about. In the past, no question. We've seen a number of leaders leave the team lately, including one going in the other direction in this trade and one being bought out this summer.

Theoretically they could (or leadership in general can), but this teams leadership is absolutely awful. No team comes out half asleep more than the Rangers. No team gives up more goals or takes a penalty after they score.

I think a team with proper veterans can. Other than our Captain, our other biggest leader is our goaltender who screams at his own players mid game.

As of right now? He's 21 year old man. He's not 15 years old anymore. He's 21 years old and doing the same **** he did as a kid.

I was only addressing the comments about him being homophobic and a racist. I've acknowledged he has serious maturity issues. I simply don't think it's even remotely appropriate to call him a terrible human being or an awful person.

Deangelo is skilled, but what is with this organizations infatuation with acquiring stupid hockey players?

Zibanejad, Hayes, Deangelo, Miller - all immensively talented with half a brain.

hes not stupid. at all.

immature isnt stupid.

he needs to grow up and control his emotions.

skills wise, he's very talented. he's a smooth, poised, puck controlling damn who makes great reads on the pp point and can drive the play from blue line.

hes not dumb. he can actually play hockey.

I truly think some of you will be shocked when you see him on the ice, definitely not a throw in. As for being stupid, he doesn't play stupid. I've never heard him speak or heard anything about that but he's got hockey smarts for sure.

I always liked Stepan but let's face it - he had decent stats but wasn't good in long stretches last season. With 4X6.5 left and activation of his NTC looming it was now or never to make a decision on him. So I understand the decision here but maybe the return is a bit underwhelming.

Kreider, the dumbest of them all (on the ice at least )
I think thats been such a overreaction. Overthinks too much? I'll agree with that but that doesn't mean dumb. To be fair stepan's great hockey IQ has definetly dipped these last 2 years IMO
