People talk about weak drafts/good drafts. I think it's one of those terms that works its way into a conversation, but doesn't have as much depth as some think.
Generally speaking, most drafts tend to produce around the same number of players. However, some drafts require a team to do a little more homework than others. In the end, the success or failure of the Rangers draft this year will likely have more to do with the job the scouts have done, then how the draft is "perceived."
If Gorton thinks his guys have some identified some players, he's going to go with it. Otherwise he trades Stepan for an NHL player.
In this case, he now has two first rounders, cap space, and a promising, if not flawed prospect.
