I really hate the bad draft proclamations, we drafted Skjei and Miller I'm bad drafts. Not that Miller is elite but those were with lower picks. I'm excited to see who we can grab at 7.
Yeah, there's always good picks in bad drafts. Just less of them. The chances of hitting on one of them is lower.

I'm one of his biggest proponents in terms of thinking he is a legitimate grade A prospect with a decent chance at becoming a star. The most surprising thing for me this year was how solid he was on defence. On offense, he's just found to watch as his vision and agility are far and above better than most defencemen in this league.

He did have the thing with linesman last year and I'm happy that he got suspended like he did for that but apart from that he should have been playing every night as nothing else was reported in terms of maturity (as far as we know). One of the reasons so many of us wanted Tippet to go was his awful player selection and favoritism.

That sounds like our AV.

This trade is fine. Stepan is a 55-60 point high end 2C/low 1 that is not nearly as much of a defensive stud as he's portrayed on this board. I love him as a Ranger, but he is not irreplaceable.

keep both picks, wait for July,
unless Canes or Peg come asking for 21st in deal for Trouba/Faulk

Just coming in here for a bit, doesn't it make sense with where the Rangers are to use that #7 overall for a young cost-controlled center?

That way you're basically upgrading Girardi to DeAngelo, signing Shattenkirk, and getting a center to replace Stepan.

What about Smith?

McD-Shatty
Skjei-Smith
Staal-DeAngelo
Berglazov

Trade Holden

Pls resign Smith! FOr the love of God he was good, and I can't bare watching another trade deadline deal, where we dealt multiple draft picks go to waste on a 3 month rental.

E-Stall, Yandle and MSL was far too much already.

I'm confused and terrified by the fact the Rangers have a top-10 pick.

But I'm on board with moving Stepan, especially after the most recent playoffs. Excited by the potential of what DeAngelo, 7th OA, and $6.5m could turn into.

Hopefully they use it more wisely than the last few times. :shakehead

Liked step, after initial shock, I think this is pretty good value. Exciting day for the franchise.

I think a lot of this trade kind of hinges on what a person things of DeAngelo as a prospect and NHLer. If you feel he has legit star potential puck moving power play scoring defenseman who's solid on D, then it does make a lot more sense.

If you just see his a potential 2nd pairing guy with a screw loose and unknown if he'll put it together, the trade looks mediocre

Guys, as a Coyotes fan I can say most of our board is not happy we had to give Deangelo up. I really hope we offered the 23rd overall pick before we offered him.

Don't let his idiocy fool you, he's a Grade A prospect who could legitimately turn into a star.

Seriously, this isn't too bad at all, pretty even value-wise. Sad to see Steps step out...

It's huge, not bad though... just wish it were a stronger draft... so we can only truly quantify this in like 2-3 years...

called this a month ago and was told by all you i was dumb - never happen...

Next move Nash @75% for Kane+2nd

Unloading Steps was about not being saddled with his contract more than anything. He was a nice player but a bit slow for AV's system. Also, he struggled on face-offs.

Most people think there aren't any NHL ready forwards outside of the top two picks this year

Honestly thought Stepan would be worth 7th + Deangelo alone but I guess he didn't have as much value as we thought and we got fair value for a goalie which is always way lower than expected. I love Deangelo he's got very high offensive upside, and plays with an edge. Having a 7th overall pick is a funny feeling.
