Very interested to see what they make of the center depth and how to fill it with Derek and Oscar's plane crash-landing in the Sahara :D

ok the value honestly isn't "bad" at al but if i knew this is what Stepan would've gone for, i'd have just kept him

They have to have some sort of follow up here.

I'd agree with this if it weren't for his NMC. We had to unload him by July 1 if we were to improve our C talent. He wasn't good enough for the money he made.

I think it almost definitely has to do with cap space and the NTC. The Rangers decided they didn't want to be saddled with that and they had to move him. Maybe his poor playoffs scared them as well

That's two A's gone so far. Wonder how it will affect the locker room.

Every year seems to be the worst draft in a long time, and next year is better.

I'm not a draft expert, but to me, this draft doesn't have an Eichel/Matthews/Laine/McDavid, but the meat of it is very good. I think a lot of teams will get very good players in this first round. I also think there's a very good chance that at least two of the players picked from 3-10 will be better than Patrick or Hischier.

Honestly this trade isn't terrible but I think Raanta should have been traded separately for a 2nd.

Stepan alone should have gotten this package.

Regardless this is a good move, we now have two 1st round picks in this draft and the first top 10 pick in years.

Seems like Shattenkirk is all but officially a Ranger and we need center depth now that we've lost Lindberg and Stepan.

Would love to see Duchene on this team.

Yeah....this is kind of the way I think as far as the trade goes. Not sure I'm all that jazzed about bringing in both Shattenkirk and Duchene. Rangers do get younger--are going to get a really really good draft pick and get some cap flexibility....but should have gotten at least another 2nd out of this package.

I like DeAngelo. Not for Stepan. They didn't get the C, and they got a 7 in a bad draft.

When the Rangers C depth struggle with defensive responsibilities next season, and should they start off slower instead of faster for a change, can't wait until this entire board complains about missing Stepan.

Spot on.

This is an interesting comment.

Isn't it what a lot of us here have been saying? The game is getting faster and Stepan is getting slower. His points per game has steadily been declining since the 2014 season. Yes the Rangers center depth now sucks but that's only a concern if you're dead set on the Cup next year.

The 7 in this draft is no different than the 7 in any draft.

this screams Staal and Girardi syndrome to me and i hate it.

every player with a big contract is now a huge risk for some reason.

To be honest the Rangers D could be very good next year if they also signed Shattenkirk to what would hopefully be a somewhat reasonable contract

McD-Shattenkirk
Skjei-DeAngelo
Holden/Staal-Bereglazov/Pionk/etc

3rd pair could be iffy but the top 4 is suddenly a very modern puck moving offense pushing defense which could do a lot to offset some weakness in the forwards if played right

Thank you! That's what I was trying to say for days now.

I'm one of his biggest proponents in terms of thinking he is a legitimate grade A prospect with a decent chance at becoming a star. The most surprising thing for me this year was how solid he was on defence. On offense, he's just fun to watch as his vision and agility are far and above better than most defencemen in this league.

He did have the thing with linesman last year and I'm happy that he got suspended like he did for that but apart from that he should have been playing every night as nothing else was reported in terms of maturity (as far as we know). One of the reasons so many of us wanted Tippet to go was his awful player selection and favoritism.

Man oh man was I wrong. Officially eating the crow. This is total re-build mode.

We can still get a player for the 7 (or the 21), if we have our eyes on a guy, more teams will be able to take the pick than Derek Stepan. I don't think we go into next season anywhere near this weak down the middle.

I really hate the bad draft proclamations, we drafted Skjei and Miller in "bad drafts". Not that Miller is elite but those were with lower picks. I'm excited to see who we can grab at 7.

Not happy with this. Dangelo might have promise but he has an attitude problem. But then again 6.5 million in cap gone.

We're gonna have to swap some wingers for centers in the coming weeks/months.

What about Smith?

McD-Shatty
Skjei-Smith
Staal-DeAngelo
Berglazov

Trade Holden

I'm confused and terrified by the fact the Rangers have a top-10 pick.

But I'm on board with moving Stepan, especially after the most recent playoffs. Excited by the potential of what DeAngelo, 7th OA, and $6.5m could turn into.
