And for the record, I will be the very first one who applauds him if and when he changes. I've seen nothing to indicate that he has changed at all since the time he was drafted, though. So I'm not holding my breath.

Is the biggest knock on this lad his attitude?

How has he developed in terms of his play?

Highly skilled, great tools, great skater, just can't play a lick of defense apparently.

Well, last year half our defense couldn't and we didn't do too badly.

I'm worried about DeAngelo's personality and maturity as well, but by all accounts the Rangers surround the team with plenty of good people and resources to either help guys out where they need it, or just straight up prevent them from doing stupid things otherwise.

His talent is clearly there, and if he's going to figure out what being a pro means mentally, there's probably not a better team to do it with in the NHL.

Count me as someone who likes to root for good human beings. That's what made this last era of Rangers hockey so amazing. Henrik, Cally, Girardi, Step, McDonagh...all amazing human beings on and off the ice. Go back even further: Richter, Leetch, Graves. Model human beings.

I want this team to win the cup. But I also want this team to win with good people & model citizens. Just my opinion, for whatever that's worth...

Have you ever watched the movie, "Slap Shot"? That was a realistic depiction of what goes on in hockey. You would be crushed.

Clearly they didn't trade for him to be a spokesperson.

If he can focus on hockey, and put it together, I'm happy.

That's true for any player, whether they are over-aggressive, or annoyingly passive; Far Left, Far Right, whatever.

Sports teams have told players to chill on tweets in the past.

Whatever I don't have to like the guy personally. I can separate the two and root to win games

I didn't know anything about DeAngelo other than some issues big whoop. I like him even more now!

DeAngelo / AV

Reading about DeAngelo's temperament makes me think he is just the type of young player that will clash with AV. (Of course most young players will but particularly so in his case).

In my opinion, the Rangers have to be up to something else. How can you trade such a key piece for a pick and a prospect when you're not rebuilding?

He's a human being, and not a worthless one at all. My line of work and volunteerism has introduced me to some people who, had they been written off as "terrible people" or "awful human beings" while in their teens and early twenties, would never have had the opportunity to flourish as adults and pull the complete 180 that they did.

I understand being concerned with the kid's history, past and more recent, but it's absurd to label him as a terrible or awful person. If someone wants to affix those labels that's their prerogative, but it's really unwarranted.

I absolutely agree. I mean, it is fair to discuss to an extent as he is now a part of the team. He has had some history. But already labeling the kid all these horrific things? It just isn't fair.

Just make the kid room with a Nash or a Staal on the road. Gotta make use of these two remaining albatross contracts any way you can. At least these two can mentor him.

I guess people forget JT Miller also had his issues. Both torts and AV mentioned this. Thankfully he seemed to grow up a bit and doesn't have those issues anymore. The same can happen for Tony D

...what? Your employer telling you not to use twitter has nothing to do with the First Amendment. My goodness...

It depends. They can tell you to knock it off, but they can't leverage your livelihood against it. For example, they couldn't send a guy to the AHL who is on a two-way contract because he refused to get off Twitter. They can't suspend a player for it either. It'd be an interesting court case to see if they can even bench him for it (though I would think the courts would say that as long as hes getting paid, they can).

What if he's not a terrible person or evil, but teammates , coaches, referees , Zamboni drivers etc. just think he's sort of an ******* and don't want to sit with him on the bus?

His issues were just a wee a bit different.

Stepping back into discussing DeAngelo the hockey player, during his limited time in Arizona, his analytics were pretty ridonkulous.
