His Twitter page is also a nightmare.
Yeah, noticed that as well.
Going to be very interesting to see how AV treats him.
Indeed. They strike me as polar opposite personalities.

Regarding the trade: right direction, not enough value.

Maybe I'm diminishing DeAngelo's value because I for one don't like dirtbags on my team, but I feel like he is a mediocre piece. And I felt like the Rangers should've been able to get two good pieces plus a third, less valuable piece for Stepan + Raanta.

Really hope the Rangers are higher on DeAngelo than I am.

(And I really hope the kid educates himself, but I don't think the odds are high, unfortunately.)

I like Stepan but clearly this is a team that needed a shake up. Perhaps a bit more **** and vinegar. From what I recall of Stepan's comments after the loss, he basically said he ran out of steam and could not raise his game. Not what you want to hear from a guy you count on and pay accordingly.

Cap space. Youth. Maybe start getting some more type A guys. Cause I'd rather win with a few incorrigibles than lose with a team full of nice guys who always say the right thing.

Christ. People criticize Step for being too loose and not showing intensity. Then he shows how ****ing badly he wants to win and how into the game he is by telling Henrik to calm down, and fans get on his ass. Then in his exit interviews he talks about how he was terrible and he needs to be better - you know, ACCOUNTABILITY - and then fans rip him for not being confident? What the ****?

Couple thoughts....

At first I was also disappointed with the return. But its important to keep in mind that we took back no salary in the trade. There is value there that goes beyond players and picks. Not saying signing Shattenkirk is a good idea, but if he were to sign at 5-6 years at 6.5 million then technically we traded Stepan+Rantaa for Shattenkirk, DeAngelo, and the 7th overall pick. Its rare to see such a lopsided cap hit trade like this one.

As far as Deangelo goes....I havent said a homophobic slur in well over 10 years. When I was a teenager? That was all we called each other. So I wont hold that against him too much. Outside of him trying to pull away from that Ref last year, he was like 16-17 years old for all "Personality" issues that he apparently has.

I think playing on a team of veterans will help him more than playing on a team of kids. But this team desperately needs someone with a bit of attitude. Everyone saw the affect that Avery had on the team, and the rumors were that oustide of a handful of players, most of his teammates didnt like him.

Growing up in NJ, anyone know if we was a Rangers fan as a kid?

I don't want a homophobic racist on my team. I'll take a cheap or dirty player. Or a guy who says some borderline **** to get under someone's skin. DeAngelo is an awful human being. He shouldn't have the privilege of wearing this jersey.

Rarely will I ever object to a player on the team I root for. I've defended all sorts of bad characters. But DeAngelo's outright bigotry is just part of a pattern of character flaws he has.

If he was just a dirtbag? Cool. All the merrier. Attaching his massive personality flaws and racism? Blech.

I 100% agree with all of this. I dont want an awful human being like him wearing my teams jersey.

Stepan is 27 but he looks like he is older and will decline faster. this is a faster game now and Stepan just doesn't have the speed or physicality to keep up. I love his defense and he did have big goals/plays but at the same time with his cap hit nd the NTC kicking it we couldn't take another chance like we did with Giarrdi and Staal. Plus Stepan has reached his peak as a player

Yeah modern fans bloviate from being full **** in one thing to the next depending on the Twitter cycle.

I'm confused as to how you know what type of human being he is. Because he said some things in juniors?

Also, would anyone be angry right now if we got Corey Perry or Vermette? Both did things to referees arguably worse then DeAngelo did. Only reason he was suspended and not Perry is because it was the playoffs and because of his pedigree.

Disturbing lack of chatter about a center replacement.

Really don't want to make that 7th pick, please flip for C.

Wait until July 1st.

Very possible that they're viewing this pick as that guy too. Maybe not immediately, but there are a few guys available at that spot who should be ready pretty soon.

The return is not good at all as far as players. With that being said will have 20-24 million in cap space now open and we better play this right.. Major dangerous zone gorden is entering lots of money and declining team.. Go all in and move a few more pieces while you can.. Nash .. for sure if possible. Don't like the deal as far as Stepan was worth the number 1 alone.. IMO

Is a homophobic/xenophobic version better?

Much rather have someone say bad things than actually commit criminal acts. So yeah. It is. Not saying it's a good thing to do, but it's not comparable to me.

Anyway, I just hope he is a dynamic puck mover for us.

DeAngelo, however, has been tearing up the league in the 30 games since his draft that his own team mates could stand him being on the roster.

You got me there, 21 year old defenders are of course fully developed and should never be on anyone's team. He sure is as useless as Purinton.
