Great White North eh...
Thank goodness we didn't give a 1st for Maroon as some were speculating. NJ paid a reasonable price, IMO. Just glad our 1st went to Stastny.

I was worried when I heard we were actually interested in Maroon for the added muscle. Also glad we didn't get Rick Nash. It would have been expensive and his better days are behind him. Really happy how this worked out.

After the schooling of Blues in last game I think he couldn’t waive his NMC fast enough :)

I wonder if Armstrong was PO'd about everyone ganging up against the Jets? Sounds like it was a very hush hush deal.

I have always been curious about trades that almost were, whether its bc they weren’t submitted in time, or for some reason fell through last second. Anyone know any notable ones?
TSN said that Karlsson to Vegas was a possibility, but it never came together. They didn't say what Vegas would have sent though.

I feel like we needed to do both (Center and D) or nothing. Look at the Lightning now. I don't think we did enough to win it all. Morrow is what he is, but he doesn't help for a cup run. If we are using Joe Morrow in the playoffs, we are in bad shape.

So we put our toe in the water, but didn't jump all the way in on a cup run. And we now have given up our #1 pick and a decent prospect. Oh well. This would have made more sense to me if we would have done something significant on D as well.

Hopefully, the Stastny move will enable us to get past the first round and earn some significant playoff experience this year. That would be a huge benefit as well - getting past the first round and gaining that post season experience.

But I admire Chevy for making a move and the organization for being willing to try. It is a pretty significant trade/gamble. If we can somehow re-sign Stastny, then it will have been worth it anyway to bring this year's momentum into next year.

One correction. Hendricks did not dress for a single game in the PO's for the Oil last year. Now probably doesn't this year either.

Thanks for the heads up on that Mort-- but I did read that Hendricks was a part of that playoff run for the Oil. Maybe it was meant--just in the dressing room.

You just knew Chevy was going to get knocked for giving up a first. It's a good move, this org can absorb the loss of a late round first at this stage, especially in a weak draft. The emergence of a guy like Roslovic makes it so much easier and there are a number of others knocking on the door. A blip on the radar for the long term future of the team and a huge boost in the interim.

Asked if Stastny deal was plan B. Vague answer but something of the sort that this wasn’t even on their radar of something that was available until it was available.

Yup. Cheering section. He helped get them there too.

I think the Morrow move was the right one. I was most concerned that we would suffer significant injuries on D and end up having to dress Melchiori. We have another NHL defenseman with some experience to play if need be.

This is an absolutely ridiculous signing, how is Chevy able to do these crazy moves!?? Best GM in the league, bar none! Wow, I was shocked how CHEAP it ended up being, was expecting FAR more than a late first rounder. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s game!!!

Asked if he sent out Wheels to make a sales pitch: states he (Chevy) has a great relationship with Wheels and as part of his role as a captain, he asks him to do certain things and has had conversations about deals he wants to make (like last summers free agency period).

Hopefully that good relationship bodes well for a right fit extension??
