IMO, this isn't different than keeping Frolik for the playoff run instead of renting him out for picks / prospects.

I don't like giving up the 1st, but I'm caught up in the enthusiasm for having one of the truly best rosters in the NHL. As a long-time Jets fan and STH I'm looking forward to the last few months of the season and playoffs more today than I have in quite some time.

So perhaps losing on Brassard Pleks and Letestu is a blessing in disguise? This giu is a better fit than they are in playing style and contract status. likely the Blues GM didnt decide to sell until yesterday. Talk about timing!

If it was known Stastny was available at 50% I would have preferred this from the beginning

JMO...

This is a high price to pay ( I never thought trading a 1st round pick was really a good idea ) and a gamble. And if the Jets do bow out in the 1st round I guarantee that people who are positive about the trade today will be calling for Chevy's head.

I generally agree, and was surprised but:

1) Their board is a huge factor. If they're imagining drafting 20th or later and don't love anyone after their top 5, then that pick's value is more specifically set. Also, if those five are all pretty high profile, or are being scouted a great deal by other teams, then that's a devaluing factor for the pick as well.

2) This might be a narrative move as much as anything, and I wouldn't be surprised if a move of this magnitude was a one-off and not the new status quo.

"Dear Blake,

Let's make the f***ing playoffs.

Kisses,
Jets

P.S. -- go look in Matthias's stall"

Well I am happy that the Jets are going for it. PS is fantastic two-way 2nd line center and we now have the deepest forward core in the league, no weaknesses.

Giving up a first is tough and I liked Foley but we are stacked organizationally on the left. Just check out the Moose with Lemiuex, Appelton. Ves in Finland, plus the guys on the Jets.

The only way this trade backfires is if the Jets get bounced in the early rounds...and then next year when the team is in better position and more experienced to make another run the team decides to be more conservative at the deadline and decides to keep its 2019 first round pick since it already lost this years pick.

Will the Jets be willing to trade back to back first round picks given how well they draft in the first round?

Maybe Laine gets still demoted to the 4th line to play with gramps? That would give some nice fuel for the ”conspiracy” theories. Because of course Wheeler wants to play with his buddies Stastny and Scheifele in the first line, PLR will be kept together because of it being so magnificent of course and Connor will get demoted to play with Copp and Ehlers, as those two have anyway been the backbone of the Copp-line. And so Laine ends up holding hands with gramps for the rest of the season, while Armia finds a new healthy popcorn diet.

And then thank God I woke up from the horrible nightmare!
Or was it a nightmare after all... :help:

Their GM was pissed they lost 6 in a row. The loss to Nashville was the final straw. It was very last minute.

Between the Pipes
Blues trade Stastny to Jets for draft picks and a prospect

"When I knew Winnipeg was interested, I almost didn't believe it at first," Stastny told the NHL Network. "It's always been a tough matchup for us in St. Louis. With them, with the high quality of forwards it seemed like a pretty good fit. Wherever they slot me in you're going to be playing with some quality players. So I'm excited for it."

"It's tough. That's for sure. The sad part is leaving these guys. I have a close group of friends here. One of the closest group of guys I've ever played with. I think that's always gonna be the toughest part. . . .I want the best for them as well, but I also want the best for myself and I want to win."
