I get the trepidation over trading 1st round picks. I look at it this way.

This year, we have a unique mix of amazing vets still playing like they're in their prime, and amazing young players hitting their stride. That ain't gonna last forever.
This year, he look like we could be pretty healthy heading into the playoffs. (fingers crossed)
This year, we look like we will have some aspect of home ice advantage heading into the playoffs.
This year, we have the cap space to make a TD move.
This year, we have yet to have made any hard roster decisions due to the cap. We still got everyone we want.
This year, the team is clicking and on fire.

The stars have aligned.
It took a long time to get here.
Go for it.

Maybe Laine gets still demoted to the 4th line to play with gramps? That would give some nice fuel for the ”conspiracy” theories. Because of course Wheeler wants to play with his buddies Stastny and Scheifele in the first line, PLR will be kept together because of it being so magnificent of course and Connor will get demoted to play with Copp and Ehlers, as those two have anyway been the backbone of the Copp-line. And so Laine ends up holding hands with gramps for the rest of the season, while Armia finds a new healthy popcorn diet.

And then thank God I woke up from the horrible nightmare!
Or was it a nightmare after all... :help:

...from The Athletic (Custance graded it an "A" for the Jets):

“Love it,” texted one longtime coach. “Terrific two-way center. Great locker room presence. Great teammate. Experienced. Will fit perfectly behind [Mark] Scheifele and [Bryan] Little. Give them great playoff depth down the middle. Maybe the best trade yet.”

I always figured Chevy would part with a 1st this year if he found the right piece. Sounds like Stas might be that piece? GJG

I have always been curious about trades that almost were, whether its bc they weren’t submitted in time, or for some reason fell through last second. Anyone know any notable ones?

We likely made the biggest splash this deadline. Barring some unforeseen collapse, we'll give up a pick in the mid 20's or later, plus a prospect that is years away from cracking our roster, for some of the best C depth in the league these playoffs.

I really like this trade.

'd like to point out that Foley signing with us would have been entirely up to him. With the winger depth of ours, it would not have been a given to have him ever come here.

That isn't available to Foley until Aug 16 of next year. Probably would have been signed this year. Very different from Suess who can become a UFA this Aug. Suess is also 4 years older than Foley. That is huge.
Foley signing with the Jets was not a given - Blues are not a given either. But there is no particular reason to doubt he would have signed here.

We paid a pretty hefty price - basically the same Chicago paid for Ladd. Statsny is a center and is not playing through a hernia - so I like our deal better. I wonder if this means that they aren't counting on Lowry being 100%?

Anyway, decent deal. Now we definitely need a veteran D with Toby getting injured. It would be a waste to load up on Statsny and then leak out the back end.

I don't think it implies doubt about Lowry. The buzz for a long time has been about adding a C. This greatly reduces the anxiety about Lowry though.

I love how Stastny wasn't even on the trade radar, yet Chevy was able to make the deal for likely the best centre. No opportunity for any shenanigans like LVK or someone else getting in the way.

Even at 31st I still care about it - a lot. Great to get Stastny. Doesn't mean I am happy to lose either the 1st or Foley. When I buy I car, I love the car. But I care about the 40k that is gone.

Objectivity does not have to equate to pessimism.

Playoffs are different. Different rule book to start. PO experience is good to have, but it is overrated. BTW, Stastny has a fair bit of PO experience.

Chevy sure swung for the fences today, guess he kinda had to with the way the team is playing, does it get us over the top, long playoff run hope so because a short run and Stastny fleeing in free agency will not be pleasant around here, anyways on paper we are much improved today, Jeff O'Neill for was it's worth called us the best team in the NHL as of today. Apparently Enstrom is OK. But if he had been hurt it would just mean Kuli moving back to the left and Poolman drawing in. Maybe not ideal but not terrible. Not sure if Morrow is going to help or not.

You have to go for it. Especially in the situation the Jets are in. In a few years we won't be able to afford this team. And as tough as the Central Division is, there's no guaranty we would even make the playoffs next year. Who knows?
Look at what happened with the Oilers this year after a deep run last year. Not that we're anything near the hot mess they are.

Stastny is great player and all, but 1st for rental.. I don't like it either. But if Lowry's situation is uncertain, then i guess it was worth the risk.

I dont buy into the hype just yet altho i do believe this will definatly help. I presume this will be laines centre and it cant hurt said center has played with tarasenko before zo he should know how to set up that shot :)

Im putting all my vcash on the jets anyways.

We need to hear more from the "Objective Poster"-- a man who tells it like it is-- but I disagree with you here. Buff has won the Stanley Cup with Chicago, and Wheeler, Little, Stastny, and Scheif have also been thru playoff runs. Also Hendricks was valuable to the Oiler's deep run last year.(lots of experience)

Maurice has also coached a team to the Cup final--so we should be very close to being able to go all the way !!!

One correction. Hendricks did not dress for a single game in the PO's for the Oil last year. Now probably doesn't this year either.

Stastny is an outstanding pick up.

In all honesty, he is simply a better player than Brassard at the moment.

This opens huge possibilities for the Jets in terms of how the lines fit together.
