As per Natural Stat Trick at 5v5, Anaheim ranks 4th best at GA with 21 goals against. That's pretty impressive. Unfortunately, the Ducks rank the worst at GF at 5v5 with 13 goals for. We aren't able to keep up offensively like our defense.

But is our 5v5 defense ( or 5v5 GA) a mirage?
  • 5v5 stats
    • GF = 13 (32nd)
    • GA = 21 (4th)
    • xGF = 23.11 (30th)
    • xGA = 32.56 (28th)

Looking at the 5v5 xGA (expected Goals Against), it appears that Dostal is the reason why our 5v5 GA isn't worse. Yeah, our 5v5 defense is a mirage.

PP eff = 15.0% (25th)
PK eff = 73.5% (26th)

  • 5v5 stats, 2023-24
    • GF = 127 (30th)
    • GA = 174 (22nd)
    • xGF = 142.63 (31st)
    • xGA = 167.67 (17th)
    • PP eff = 18.30 (23rd)
    • PK eff = 72.74 (31st)

Comparing the two seasons (granted it's only 12 games):
  • 5v5 Offense remains abysmal ↔️
  • the 5v5 xGA got worse ↘️
  • our PP got worse ↘️
  • our PK remains mediocre ↔️

::: sighs ::: The probability of improving this year seems unlikely.

These guys are gonna forecheck the hell out of us
I watched the Sharks vs Wild game yesterday, and they are really strong on the forecheck for sure. They are also good at keeping possession in the ozone, which the Ducks have been susceptible to. Could be in for a rough game, or hopefully the back to back will lessen the potency of the Wild.
