flint/brantford was unable to expose mediocre goaltending (.882% for schenkel, .692% for miller).

it's too early imo to call goaltending our achilles heel but if it doesn't immediately improve it's going to show on our Win-Loss record for sure.
I agree it's much too early to draw conclusions. Would Schenkel coming in down 3 and posting a .929 save % and getting the W count as immediate improvement?

anecdotally for sure it does!

i'm not sure where to arbitrarily draw the line for a "reasonable sample size" but personally i'm a little more interested in where Charlie's numbers are after 10 starts, not 1 start + 1 relief appearance.

I like to see where the team is at after ~ 25% of the season (17 games). Schenkel will probably have 10-12 starts by then.
maybe not the right word, but you are kind of stuck with him anyways arent you? outside of the north bay kid there are no great goalies out there to trade for, and that guy may not even be traded

Yes, I think Schenkel is going to be part of the tandem regardless. The question is more what role does Miller play, and is Schenkel a starter or backup?

who is better then schenkel that you could trade for? are you going to cut an 03 to bring in an 03 goalie? gaudreau isnt that good imo.

Yep slim pickings, hopefully we never have to find out. If Schenkel struggles perhaps MacKenzie? DiVincentis? Parsons? It would depend how much he struggled.

divincentis is good enough to win on his own most nights but im not sure that hes available. same for the rest of them, kitchner isnt moving parsons and i highly doubt ottawa moves mackenzie.

thats what im kind of saying, you go with schenkel and thats about all you can do. guelph and owen sound also have some questions, but both teams have two guys and in owen sound the george kid may be elite very early.

my struggle with miller when i saw him (just a game or two) was that he looked the part but he let in more goals then any other of the 'top' goalie group. george for me was the best, he was small and not that pro body but was elite with his compete and technical abilities. there was lots of hype on miller thou.i worried that he was more tools then actual substance.

based on recent postings we allegedly need to trade for a starter in net, trade for a top 4 defense, and trade for a top 6 forward while still having picks in the cupboard for the deadline... do i have this right?

the cognitive dissonance in calling us a contender while wanting to rebuild the core through trades is not lost on me.

i would argue a1a goaltender, 2 top 6 forwards, one that can drive play. you do that and you get to the second round and may not be any better then they teams who already have loaded uo.

this seems like a round peg into a square hole, lets force the team to win vs allowing the situation to dictate that its time to win, but what do i know.

Right on. It’s almost a fetish on hfboards to want and dream about trades all the time. It’s a tiny bit disturbing considering the age groups of the players. I understand there’d be more trade talk at certain times of the year. But every bloody day? Every team forum too.

Good luck to the Hounds tomorrow and this season. Have spent a considerable amount of time up there.

Before Schenkel's injury last season he was sporting an excellent. 913 SV% with 2 shutouts. He never quite looked the same after returning.

Now that he's healthy, I see no reason why he can't build on what we saw last year. People are making a lot of judgments on an awfully small sample of minutes.

As I said above, it's not that I don't trust Charlie, it's that I don't think the tandem of Miller and Charlie is the right choice if we are "all in" this year. I don't particularly mean they need to make a move today, I'm looking at the long run.

Small sample size but you bet your bottom dollar if we lose tonight everyone on this forum will be talking like this, "I ToLd yOu We ArEnT aS gOoD", LOL, or if we were 0-2 right now, COULD YOU IMAGINE? lol

Unable to watch tonight's game...would you (and/or Hockey Pops) be able to provide a post-game summary? Thanks.

I won't be there. Anyone know if there is going to be a broadcast on the local shaw/rogers channel?

As paying fans we certainly all want the best for our clubs, not factoring in the ages of the players, so trade talk is the norm....only place you won't find trade talk is at your local pee-wee games

Problem is this year is that the teams that have that go to goaltender are teams that might be vying for a run in the playoffs so leaves little to no movement left in the goaltender market...London may be the only one who makes a move for a goalie and some question why that was even done as Peterborough may be looking to go again this year..

Thank you for sharing. They still aren't televising any home or away games vs. American teams. Sigh.

i agree, thats kinda what im saying, you have to go with what you have, there is no miracle guy thats so much better comnig in via trade.
