It was a penalty kill, what miracle was he supposed to perform? I'd be more concerned about a team that struggled at home against a last place team that was shorthanded and missing their top players.

Those 2 points look good. Tied for first overall now?

True story. That game was one of the most boring games till the tying goal was scored.

Was nice to get the win tho, as ugly as it was. Costanzo deserved the first star and was very classy coming out for it, to many cheers from the soo faithful which was nice.

Clattenburg. When the kid plays hockey, lately he is contributing and some shifts he is dominant. I'd like to see some more rough stuff, but the kid can play when hes on the right side of the line.

Loved the old jerseys.

Great to see jumbo back in the soo. Loved his speech. Those of us that got to watch him every night those two years were so lucky. What a special talent he was, and I'm not sure when we will see one like that again here.

Hope to see a better game tomorrow

First game I was able to attend this year. Good one to pick, I feel bad for not knowing half the team anymore after being a season ticket holder so I will offer my very small sample size and meaningless evalutations. I also apologize if I spell names wrong, I'm not fact checking any of this.

Goalie - Shenckel? He looks good. He made some really nice saves tonight, it's under appreciated when goalies make big saves after not seeing a shot for long stretches.

BMB - the captain - he looked good but underwhelming. Had the puck a ton in some big opportunities in the offensive zone and seems to fumble it. Although in general the puck was bouncing alot tonight. The barn was warm with a packed crowd. Turn the heat down folks.

Karkki - looks like a stud. Vegas got a good pick for the 3rd round, he needs to hit the weight room but hes got some potential. He looks very fluid.

Gibson - as a Wings fan. He is not very well regarded as a prospect by lots of HF members. He looked good to me. He can play defense which is task 1, 2 , and 3 for his position. Lots of people don't think he has offensive potential but I can see it. That part of his game will only get better. He needs to work on his skating but he is already an NHL size player. That's not going to hurt him going forward. I think he's a solid pick for where the Wings got him.

Windsor - Abraham... I may have missed some stuff but that kid was laying on the red line half the game begging for a penalty

Also, did it seem like close to zero body contact until 5 minutes left in the 3rd?
Full barn boys, get some energy.

Looks like the Hounds gave the Thornton the royal treatment. Well deserved. Joe seems like such a down to earth guy, think he really thrived in that California Beach vibe. I still remember getting his #1 overall poster signed in the old Memorial Gardens lobby. Should have retrofitted that building because crowds these days are mild to say it lighty. Gentleman beside me said f**k and got grilled by other adults.

Also Joe was planting some seeds to harvest later when mentioning his wife in the speech. Atta boy Joe, what a beauty.

Old jerseys, absolute nostalgia. Wear those more please. Bring back the black jerseys while your at it.

Late evening thought. Does Jeff Carter get his jersey retired? It's hard to hold everyone to the standard of Thornton and Gretzky.
I mentioned this to the wife last night, Carter would be next in line I think for a jersey retirement.....he may not have the same sort of stats as a Thornton or Gretzky, heck these two are probably the last of the greats we'll see raised in the rafters...Carter certainly cemented himself as a great Captain in the community and will always be one of my favorite Hounds

As for the game last night, being apart of that crowd was special, seeing Jumbo Joe's number being raised was awe inspiring and a memorable moment....I see a few lucky fans managed to get autographs and photos as he was leaving....the game overall was really underwhelming against Windsor but having a full house certainly gave it playoff vibes at times especially when Hayes scored the tying goal and Sirrazzoti with the GWG with 6 seconds left

Hope today is a better game overall

Did Joe not say " If you ever need me, you know where to find me" at the end of his speech?

I also disagree about the game being underwhelming, we posted almost 40 shots. We can't expect to blow out every team and winning tight games like this is something we need to do.

Costanzo looked phenomenal last night though. Outstanding performance.

So I was just checking the OHL website and i'm not sure if this is new but i believe it is. They've added Dangerous Shots / Shots as stat line for players. If it's not new, I'm unsure how I've never noticed it haha.

Carter for sure, but how hasn't Wayne Groulx? All time leading goal scorer for the Greyhounds.

The Soo
windsor came to play and despite being outgunned they worked hard and got great goaltending.

more importantly our community needed something like that, not just because we love our hounds but because October was a dark month for so many kids and families after the recent tragedy. a full house, a tight game, a thrilling finish and of course Joe's ceremony was just what the doctor ordered imo.

Barker seems to be coming around again, although even through his sluggish start I wasn't too concerned.

Brodie bringing a lot more offense than I expected. He has a great shot also.

Brown is never going to be a physical player, but at least he doesn't seem to be giving up on a play early to avoid contact anymore. 67 looks good on him.

Carter is still playing but eventually.
Tochett (very good here great NHL career and StanleyCup) , Sullivan (Mem Cup here plus very good NHL career) others for sure worthy of consideration.

Nice to see Miller have a good stat line and a win. Two weaker goals on him but made some solid saves when needed. Hopefully will see more of that from him.

Only time will tell with this team but there’s a lot of positives going for them right now. We’ll see how November goes!

I know it was an empty netter and he's 18 years old, but how about the start for Arttu Karki? Thirteen goals already in his first year is insane.

The next closest defenseman, Chas Sharpe, has only half of that total and the next closest first year defenseman has only 2 goals.

I don't know that I've seen a Greyhounds blueliner get off to such a start. It would really be something to see him keep it up and approach 30 goals. The most I remember in my lifetime is Josh Godfrey's 24 goals. Good for him!

ric Jackman had 33 in 97-98. I think karki will definitely hit that mark.

I see that as a bit unrealistic (although he's on pace for 55!), but will be thrilled if he even approaches the record. He's already matched even the most optimistic projections in terms of goal scoring.

What's the difference between a Dangerous Shot and Shot? How do you even track this? haha

The leagues that track expected goals (XG) assign a % to each shot. Dump in on net might be 1% and back door tap in might be 75%. Then they add up the % of all the shots a goalie faced for the game and the total is the expected number of goals for the game. If the goalie let in fewer than expected it's a good performance. More than expected is a poor performance.

Dangerous Shots might be a simplification of this, deeming the higher XG% shots to be "dangerous" and all others to just be regular shots?

Yeah, sounds good to me haha.
