OK, F it, this guy signing again for league minimum makes him my favorite Leaf since the mid 90s. This guy is ridiculous. What a warrior and proud Leaf. I can't believe I hated him at one time. If only his team attitude and grit could rub off on a few others. I'm just flabbergasted over this and don't know what to say.

Matthews and Hyman are still top 10 in quality chances for the entire playoffs, they lost because Price shut down Matthews and Hyman has stone hands, not because they didn't generate anything though.

As Donaldson famously said "This isn't the try league. This is the get it done league." Matthews and Marner were playing six minutes a game more than Nylander, with apparently superior talent and they were outpointed.

Hell Galchenyuk had the same amount of points as Marner in the series in one fewer games AND 13 minutes less ice time per game! At this stage of their careers, it's no longer acceptable to say "well the goalie was just so dominant".

All goalies in the playoffs are good, your job on the first line is to get it done. If you don't, man up and say "I didn't get it done and I'm as frustrated as anyone". Commit to being better and to getting results. If a man has any pride and expresses this, he will go through a wall to keep his word.

The first line was to be the difference maker in this series and it wasn't. Just the facts. If they broke even one game by themselves, Leafs are playing Vegas tonight.

Yup they were educated by Patrick Marleau

I think having a career loser in Marleau mentor our young guys was more damaging than we give it credit for. Marleau never had a great playoff year himself, didn’t play like a warrior or sacrifice the body to win, and squeezed every penny out the Leafs when he signed here. No wonder our two best players are the way they are, look at who their mentor was.

Thrilled to have him back. A true leader in and off the ice for this team. Hope some of our money hungry guys have taken some notes from Spezza when it comes time to negotiate their next contracts. Wish Spezza wore an "A" for us, he deserves it. Amazing year and playoffs he had for us last year. Not sure the fear in playing him more minutes, but realistically the way he played last season, he could be a 3C here if they wanted to spend more FA money on the wings. Knock on wood, he's been very durable too. Clearly takes his health and fitness seriously.

I’m convinced spezz and the FO have an agreement that when the wheels fall off for him there’s a well paying job in within the team doing whatever it is he wants to (scout coach management)

Wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t take the Shanahan job one day.
