It's a different coach, coaching staff, GM, and president. What exactly is the relevance of "he would have had it by now" to people who were not involved in the decision previously? Unless Benoit Allaire is the one secretly calling the shots?

I think he will be under Gallant and also now that we have a few tougher guys around such that he won't have to worry about getting the crap beat out of him in a scrap without somebody jumping in......Kreider might just be the team MVP if Gallant can get him motivated enough . I'm far from a Kreider fan myself.....but I think Turk will actually get this guy going for us most games . I think Kreider will want the C and he will have to impress Gallant enough to get it.

I found these comments interesting in reference to Suzuki and by no means am I saying I think Chytil is a 1C in the making but I think they apply here.

I do find it interesting how people talk about other young centers as opposed to here. We should be thrilled to have Fil. Guy is a horse and putting it together. To whine that he’s not great on face offs or that he has to continue to get better defensively. I mean that’s obvious. Most 21 year olds do. It’s the upside you have to just love. I’m glad Drury made it very clear they see him as a center.

How many coaches has Kreider had now?

Well its a good thing the guys in the locker room have just as much of a say as the coach, staff, GM, and president. Actually out of all those people, the guys in the room probably have the most say. And the fact that Kreider was passed up previously is pretty telling that he is not the guy. This isn't even taking in the fact that he will be 31 by seasons end, and maybe has like 3 productive seasons left

Most of the guys in the room weren't even on the team 3 years ago.

I think it will be Trouba. After three years it'll go to Laf or Fox or Lindgren.

Trouba has 3 more years left on his NMC, after which he could be traded.

I think most people are assuming that he won't be here for the end of it.

Of the "veterans"I do think hes most likely to get it. I still think Fox seems like an obvious choice.

If they want lead by example, it doesn't get any more lead by example than Lindgren.

Still think the obsession with naming a captain (not so much here, but by brooks and the FO) is pretty dumb. It could literally be Rooney and I wouldn't give a f***.

he would never, in 6000 years, be MVP.
 
Tough decision. I would personally choose Fox as his skill just screams lead by example by his high level of play. But then I know people are gonna bring up Leetch and the C ruining him and blah blah blah.

I mean, if Mika resigns, is he such a bad idea ?

It all comes down to LaF. If LaF is to be the future captain give the C to Trouba this season. Then when Trouba is traded in 3 seasons, LaF has the pedigree and hopefully the experience.

Fox-A
Lindgren-A

if they are going Fox, give him the C now and LaF can hopefully earn an A in a few years time.

Trouba makes a ton of sense atm. He was a leader last season, he’s here for a minimum 3 more years, which is long enough for him to establish himself and short enough for LaF to gain experience and get more mature.
The logical choice is Trouba If they plan on LaF being the captain eventually. Otherwise, fox get it this season until his tenure with the rangers is over. Then LaF can snag an A on his chest when kreider/Trouba are traded when their NMCS become MNTCs

Drury keeps talking about this teams identity. They want to be a tough team. That eliminates Zbad. Kreider takes too many nights off. Lindgren, Fox and Lafreniere won’t be candidates in my opinion. Panarin needs a translator. Strome, No.

It’s Trouba. He’s a vocal, lead by example veteran.
