I noticed some people penciling Kreider on the 3rd line to start the season, while Kravtsov and Kakko automatically in the Top 6. I get it, these kids are the future but they need to earn those spots. Kreider is an already proven 50 point, 20 goal scorer. If Kreider has one of his usual slumps, then it's an opportunity for one of them to step up and earn that spot over him.

We will role three "scoring lines," and they will get similar minutes, you can call Kreider on the second line or on the third line, it won't really matter.

It's gonna be Trouba. At least once he rallied the team in the locker room last year to a win.

'He creates a mentality in our locker room': Jacob Trouba's impact and more thoughts on the streaking Rangers

As Rangers coach David Quinn said after Tuesday’s game, it was Trouba who rallied the troops after a slovenly second period, the coach deciding to stay out of the locker room during the second intermission for the first time all season.
“We just didn’t like our second period,” Trouba said Thursday. “I thought we needed to play better in the third. What happens in the room kind of stays in the room.”
So what was said will be left to the imagination. What was said, though, worked.
“Usually the older guys speak up in the intermission anyway,” Ryan Strome said, “but I think just for him to take the reins a little bit and have the players control the dressing room for a period, you know, sometimes you can get caught up a little bit in the X’s and O’s and I thought in the second period we were kind of just off our game. I think we all knew the magnitude of our game, the magnitude of our situation. We have to take it upon us as players, and I think he took the initiative first to do that. I’m really proud of the way we responded. …
“I think sometimes when the coach comes in every day, it’s almost like your parents yelling at you all the time. Sometimes you have to take it from within, and you have to grow as a group. I think that was a great sign for us and I’m really proud of the guys that stepped up. It was a good learning point for our team and we had a really good third period.”

If I remember correctly, he also set the physical tone in the third period of that game. That's what a captain does, leadership on and off the ice.

Trouba is a leader, but with our depth at D you have to think the FO might be wary of giving him the C if were just going to try to get out his contract in the next three seasons.

It will not be Kreider.

1. He would have had it by now
2. He isn't captain material whatsoever. He is an odd ball. Very quirky. Definitely does not have the pulse of the locker room
3. Hes invisible 70% of the year. Captains cant do that

We haven't had a captain in like 4 seasons. That's a little ridiculous.

If the Sabres had a washed up Craig Rivet as captain for 3 years we can most certainly have Trouba be the C until he is moved for the new generation.
Hank was always the captain but I get your point for sure.

I don't see an issue w Trouba (or even Fox though that would surprise me a bit) and then it's Laf or whatever in a few yrs.

Yeah I think the issue with Fox is that if you give it to him it's basically his as long as he's here. They aren't going to do a David Beckham and just hand Lafreniere the captaincy while the current C is still playing here.

With Trouba you at least kind of know what his window here it.

Maybe the C should go to Panarin or Zib. The team seems to sink or swim based on how they're doing anyways. I'm sure the room listens when either is talking. Certainly, Gallant will only be successful if theyre on board with his plan. No one else will be successful as C without Panarin's support.

I mean if that's how it works out, you just name a new one. I don't see a problem with someone being captain for 3 years.

Let Laf settle in a bit and he gets it when Trouba leaves. He'll still only be what, 23?

Agree… that’s why I said it would surprise me if it were Fox but I’m not in the locker room so no clue how he is in there.
