I feel like this deserves a shout out because, unless I missed it, seems like this has gone under the radar.

Pasta is piping hot. He's on a 15 game point streak with 30 points (13g-17a) in that stretch. He kicked off this point streak with back-to-back-to-back 3 point games and has six total 3+ point games during this run.

What an insane stretch after a somewhat slow start for him.

With Marchand in decline, he really has next to nothing to work with in terms of offensive skill on that Bruins team which makes it extra impressive. A one-man offense. He has a 25 point lead over 2nd place in team scoring (Marchand) which is tops in the league and most others that are in that ballpark are due to trades (Rantanen and Miller).

Longest point streaks among active players:

1) Patrick Kane: 26 games (40 points)
2) Sidney Crosby: 25 games (50 points)
3) Mitch Marner: 23 games (32 points)
4) Patrick Kane: 20 games (43 points)
5) Nate Mackinnon: 19 games (38 points)
6) Nate Mackinnon: 19 games (36 points)
7) Sidney Crosby: 19 games (30 points)
8)Taylor Hall: 19 games (26 points)
9) Corey Perry: 19 games (26 points)
10) Jason Robertson 18 games (34 points)
11) Steven Stamkos 18 games (33 points)
12) Connor McDavid 17 game (37 points)
13) Connor McDavid 17 games (32 points)
14) Jack Eichel 17 games (31 points)
15) Robert Thomas 17 games (29 points)

Pasta in Boston is the definition of "singlehandedly".
I don't want to derail the thread and cause a shit storm on post #3 but I don't really understand what the Bruins stand to gain by holding on to him at age 28 when they are a team in decline, falling down the standings, and have absolutely zero prospects or stud U23 players to build around.

If the retain 20% of his salary, think about what they could get back to kickstart the rebuild.

But this isn't about that!!! Amazing run he's on...

I am far from a Bruins fan. I dislike the team. But I watch Pasta like I used to watch Bergeron. Ignore the logo, and you just have to appreciate the high level of hockey.

Pastrnak is a superstar.

Hart trophy nomineee shuold happen. Not a win but a nomination. It won't but it should. Him and Kaprizov do a lot of the heavy lifting.

If he has his '21 season any other year than that year he runs away with the Hart. He had the terrible luck of going against McDavid's 64 goal, 153 point year. 61-52-113 and had 127% more goals than #2 on the team (27) and 68% more points (67)

On topic, since the new year he has 17-18-35 in 20 games.

After the slow start, he's now up to 6th in points and goals. Him finishing 2nd in goals is very likely since he's at 30 and #2 is Nylander at only 33. He's also only 1 point shy of 4th (McDavid with 73)

It’s a whole lot easier to rebuild with a star than without one. Getting rid of Pastrnak would be a “decade of darkness” type of move.

They are in for a decade of darkness regardless. They are out of the playoffs currently and Marchand, their 3rd best skater, is near the end of his career.

It's not hyperbolic to say Boston has the absolute worst combo of prospects + U23 building blocks in the league. They don't have a single prospect in Craig Buttons top 50 (I'm just using that list as an example, how highly you rate him is irrelevant, it's still telling) nor do they have a single young U23 player on their roster that anyone would consider a future star or even top liner.

They are the most barren team in the league looking at what's coming up so what good is a 28 year old going to be to them?

Their prospect pool/young talent is so shit that Pasta could literally land them 3 pieces that immediately become their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd best prospects and/or building blocks.

Thing is, you can turn that around in 5 years or less with good scouting and development. Pasta himself was a 25th pick. It’s not necessary to win the lottery to get players like that — and the lottery winner isn’t guaranteed to get even a Pasta level player.

Pro scouting is just as important as drafting in this scenario. In an org like the Bruins, you can pick up top players who are looking for a dream gig, like Tavares and Fox. But they’re not going to sign up for a long term rebuild with no talent around them.

Yes it’s important to clear out all the clutter and mediocrity that’s dragging them down. But Pasta isn’t clutter, he’s legit star talent who will still be contributing in 5 years. He’s the reason you don’t need to go full Blackhawks, and part of the culture that you build around going forward.

I mean, imagine if the Caps had dropped Ovechkin a couple of years ago when it became evident that their Backstrom-era team construction was finished. They’re on top of the conference now.

Thanks for pointing it out, wouldn’t have known. That’s the mark of a great scorer- linemates change, there are bad years- can you adapt and turn it around? Big fan of Pasta, free him from the Bruins.
