TL;DR "Unvaccinated players won’t be paid for each day they cannot perform their duties. That includes if the player contracts the virus, is determined to be a high-risk close contact of a COVID-19 positive work-related contact or if that player is unable to fly into Canada or other local and state jurisdictions because he’s unvaccinated."

NHL's new COVID-19 protocols create financial impact, increased restrictions for unvaccinated players

As it should be

So no travel to Canada without the Vax? That could get interesting.

Vax going to cause all sorts of sporting related issues. In the NFL, a lot of players refusing. Minny Vikings supposedly have a ton of players refusing, including Cousins I think. I don't really know how that will work out with cities like NYC, LA putting bans on entering certain locations, bars, restaurants etc.. if you don't have the vax passport. And that is going to become more frequent in certain states. In NFL at least, they won't be travelling to Canada, so it will just be a states issue. But for hockey and NBA not sure what's going to happen.

Especially now with the idea that regular boosters will be necessary, I think a lot of people are going to refuse, even if they got the first two doses. All though there is the J&J jab, which is supposedly more of a traditional vax, so maybe that will be an option. Crazy times.

93% of NFL players are vax’d. 99% of team personal are as well.
Yup and I believe I saw a tweet today that the NHLPA say 95% of players are currently fully vaccinated and I'm sure those numbers will go up even further now with this coming out today.

What player is going to sacrifice money and probably more importantly in hockey culture - screw over their team and teammates, because they don't want the vaccine? I couldn't really see any more than a handful of guys making that decision.

That of course is on top of the obvious reasons to get the vaccine for health reasons.

They can but a) Strome only comes with a one year commitment and b) if the Rangers eat 50% of his salary that is significant.
The only way that I could see that being a benefit for them in the real world would be if they decide to match the offer sheet to KK, strome at 50% allows them to eat the 6.1 salary this year for KK, and then they could look to trade him next summer. Otherwise I would think the habs would just assume have dvo. He fits the kind of game they played in their playoff run and would be a really solid replacement for danault

I'm not into offer sheets (but, admittedly, waiting for the Colorado Avalanche revenge offer sheet to Alexis Lafreniere when he becomes a RFA for the NYR offer sheet to Joe Sakic in 1997), and I'm not sure how credible these two are, but an offer sheet to Brady Tkacuk would be intriguing.

Rangers should be all over this.

I would trade Mika sell high, replace with Tkachuk.

Spector has us and Ottawa as the teams in on Hertl. Push Strome to Ottawa and the bidding on Hertl drops? Or bid high on Hertl, then sell Strome to Ottawa for what they were offering for Hertl.

THE ATHLETIC: In his latest mailbag segment, Tarik El-Bashir was asked whether the Washington Capitals will trade Evgeny Kuznetsov. One reader claimed hearing talk of the 28-year-old center becoming a New York Ranger at the start of the season.

Kuznetsov or Hertl?? I prefer Larkin Barkov Pettersson or Tkachuk brothers

could the Rangers get the Tkachuk brothers to NYR

would anyone do Matthew Tkachuk for Mika Zibanejad???

sign Brady Tkachuk to offer sheet that Senators won't be able to match

Chytil Kravtsov Robertson and 1st in 2022 for Larkin (resign him, UFA in summer of 2023)

Panarin Strome Lafrenière
Tkachuk Tkachuk Kakko
Kreider Larkin Blais
Barron Goodrow Reaves/Hunt/Richards

What on earth man lol
Larkin sucks. Kravtsov is way better, so is Chytil. Larkin would be the least valuable part of that deal and we’re giving up both Chytil & Kravtsov AND a 1st round pick player AND a 1st in a strong draft? Chytil got 1 less point in the same number of games as Larkin this season and is 4 years younger. Chytil did that with no PP time or meaningful mins.

And why would we trade from our weakest position to get yet another LW?? Lmao

Are you smoking something my man?

Hertl's knees really worry me

I would agree with this although over the last 4 years, he has only had issues in 2019-2020 where he missed 34 games total.

17-18 = 79 games
18-19 = 77 games
19-20 = 48 games
20-21 = 50 games

Over that time he is averaging ~64 points per 82 games and his corsi rel and fenwick rel are outstanding. For the most part he gets pretty even deployment it would seem as well.

Depending on the cost both in terms of assets and his next deal, I'd be interested.

Keep your bad political takes for the Covid section or something, this thread is for bad hockey takes.

Seeing as how the league just set COVID related protocols, it fits into this thread for discussion.

It's only a political take if you choose to take it as one. No one has even tried to shape it even into one so I'd suggest that you stop being sensitive over something that is relevant. This thread is for you crying over Buchnevich (but please, don't do that again either.)

Yupppp.

It's a tough one because he is such a good fit here. If you replace Strome with Hertl this team goes from could be really good to could be excellent.

ACL tears on their own are no biggie. Depending on when they occur they aren't season ending injuries anymore. But he's had both of them repaired and four knee surgeries overall. Thats an issue thats just waiting to become chronic.

He's a great gamble for a contender as a rental. Beyond that, I'd be really scared.

When I saw this, all I hear in my head was:

I Am The Eggman
I Am The Eggman
I Am The Walrus, Kakko Tkachuk Tkachuk

More appropriate for 'Around the League'. This is the Roster Building Thread on most days, and the league's COVID policy won't affect the makeup of our roster in any way.
