Well Tuch was a 2nd and a intriguing player to me too. He figures if he makes it to be a physical bottom 6’er. So that would be two 2nd’s in your scenario. It’s worth thinking about for sure. If we waited Montreal out to a point where they’re desperate (and Strome has been a good producer even at times when Panarin has been out) we might get a 1st for him.

It's possible that at the deadline someone could trade a 1st for Strome. My thoughts are I'd rather not disrupt the team during a potential playoff run and I like the value of a couple of 2nd's. Specifically if they can add a bigger bodied bottom-6 prospect like Tuch who can marinate a bit in college

The Rangers only move Strome at the deadline if Chytil has shown he’s ready to move into the top 6 or the Rangers are not in the playoff hunt which would mean the season has turned catastrophic. If the Rangers are in a playoff spot or in position to take a playoff spot they’re not going to move their 2C for a prospect and a pick. Being in a playoff position if they did move Strome at the deadline it’s likely for playoff help.

I think it’s funny that people want Chytil to step up and establish himself with top 6 production while playing 3rd line minutes and not a minute of PP time. He already does more in his minutes than Hertl, Aho, Kuznetsov, Point, Malkin, Tavares, or Zibanejad but he’s still got to #EarnIt
It is not a slam dunk that playing more will result in a similar production rate. Maybe playing more involves going up against other team's top lines more often which could impact the production. Having said that i will give you the fact that the only way to find out is to increase the playing time. All I am saying is the outcome may not be what people expect who pro rate stats.

I think the team needs to be congisant of bringing in younger players who are maybe 2-3 years away to keep backfilling for of these guys that price themselves out. Maybe someone like Luke Tuch

We've had decent success bringing in role players out of undrafted situations like Europe or NCAA UDFA in the past.

The key is that it's most likely to be role players, not top talent. That's why overpaying for guys like Goodrow instead of Buchnevich is a little unfortunate. That said, that's just one player.

He is absolutely demolishing the league in his limited time. The only thing limiting Chytil’s point totals right now is his ice time. I think it’s understated how much ice time, and especially PP time impact point totals. In my opinion it would be utter foolishness to give up and trade him before at least seeing what we have.

the ice time issue is also the only thing separating Lafreniere from blowing HF’s uber mensch out of the water in their rookie years.

It would also involve playing with better players.

It's nice that we're at least not ignoring them and all of the "tough" players we acquired can actually play

Ok we need to calm down. Chytil never scored at a great rate prior to last year where he coincidently had a 10.5% on ice shooting percentage. He’s getting older and getting better but to act like the 2.6 pts/60 is anything more than a mirage last year is being extremely optimistic. All that being said I certainly want to see what he can on the second line in a bigger role but I am not ping o be out here convincing myself he’s one of the most efficient 5v5 scorers in the league

Surprised there wasnt an old weather thread resurrected.

Over 7" of rain up here in Bergen County NJ. Major flooding in Montclair and other areas of Essex county. Friggin rivers everywhere. I know multiple people who lost their cars. One had to be evacuated from her house in Piermont. Insane amounts of rain.

To put it into perspective 7" of rain equals nearly 90" of snow
We seemed to have lost a family member. Regardless, it’s horrible to lose life. The hat brought it closer. Seeing faces over letters in a article brings it closer. Drowning in your home is a horrible unthought of nightmare scenario. Huge bummer. RIP to all lives lost.

There's really no reason not to wait until the last second in these offer sheet situations, especially since Carolina is clearly trolling them.

But yeah, any offer sheet situation. Why not wait? Tie up the other team for as long as possible. Why not?
Yes there is. To F with them. Ties them up for a week.

Over the past 2 seasons he’s 44th in ES P/60 among centers. That’s higher than Eichel, Giroux, Backstrom, Hischier, PLD, and Seguin to name a few players.

Yes this is exactly what I mean. I know what the stats are. Nothing in his numbers this year looks even remotely repeatable. Comparing him to guys like this based on one season of very high rates is setting your expectations wildly too high. Just the year before he had a below average scoring rate. Pts/60 on its own without context does not give you much information.

They can but a) Strome only comes with a one year commitment and b) if the Rangers eat 50% of his salary that is significant.
but strome is also not defensively good, which is probably what they want for that team.

Watching Rangers/Sabres on MSG from this past april. There isn't enough bleach in the world to burn away the images of Kravtsov playing with Howden. The kid was setup to fail here, but holy mother of god I cannot believe we had to endure watching our top prospects play with him. He just kills every play, bless his heart.

Really hitting home how much better our bottom six should be.

Also Fox is insane and Laf's having a good game with Mika.

Strome shouldn’t be here regardless of what Chytil does.

Can't wait to trade Strome for a 1st, 2nd, and a top prospect when he reaches 90 points by the February deadline on his way to a 115 point season.

Without him, right now, we would either be short a center or a RW.

He's really not as bad as many seem to feel. Not that I particularly want him here long term. But he's on a fairly modest salary for production, with only this season left under contract. And if for some reason we don't re-sign Zibby, and for whatever reason can't add another center, re-signing Strome to another 2 year deal max is probably not the worst thing in the world. Definitely no longer term contract extension though. But I think 2 years would give us time to keep searching for another center.

Either way, he's with us for now and I don't think he's dragging us down or anything. If we could swap him for someone like Dvorak, that would be great. But I just don't see that kind of deal happening right now, but maybe towards the trade deadline something will open up.

Lol. And if he does have a great season, like Tob "suggests", and we could trade him for something reasonable at the trade deadline, that's not so bad for a guy who's contract is about to run out. All though I doubt we would get quite so much even if he is scoring at a PPG pace. But maybe lol.

I don't want to shoot ourselves in the foot just to make the playoffs this season. If it's not happening by around mid-season, then we should be looking to move a guy like Strome for something. I am more worried about us being in the playoff hunt and retaining Strome just to finish like 8th seed, with little chance of actually competing for a Cup. I am sure that would make people upset, but just trying to be realistic.

Yup. He's our most complete center. Probably our best defensive center that has offensive ability (outside of guys like Goodrow, Rooney etc..) . I've been hammering this point for months now. The only area where he's really deficient is on faceoffs, which means for right now he probably needs a faceoff winger on his line. But hopefully he's practicing faceoffs all day, every day. If he added that, there would be no question that he's ready to take over a 2C role. And I think on one of the top 2 lines, it's not crazy to suggest he could reach 60 points. Or somewhere around there. I am not sure how high of a ceiling he actually has. But I think in the right situation, his floor would be around 50-60. Higher if he ever got PP1 time, which is unlikely this season. But he will get PP2 time, or should.

If he remains on the 3rd line, probably more like 45-50.

Kids 21 and improved every single season. And when he has had a chance to play with guys like Panarin, he's been absolutely terrific.

Aaaand there's Strome missing a wide open net.

Kakko gets his second goal of the night and Jones first NHL point. Ughh, god I miss this....
