No. My guess is that unless they can acquire Dvorak, they have to match. They simply cannot go into the season without replacing Kotkaniemi from the outside. They will most likely miss the playoffs in any case but the idea of a tank job when you just got to the SCF, good luck selling that to the fans.Has it been confirmed Montreal will not match?
Guys… exciting news!
NHL Network predicts Adam Fox may break out this year. Maybe he’ll finally be cement himself as an NHLer!

Is it just me or is embarrassing for the league’s official outlet to be predicting the reigning Norris winner as a breakout candidate. Where’s he breaking out of? The NHL into the HHoF? Where do you go from Norris?
It was reported yesterday that Montreal intends to wait to the last second to announce their decision. What a bunch of babies.Has it been confirmed Montreal will not match?
Also, what the heck is going on with Tarasenko?
There’s literally no reason not to wait. Carolina is stuck with that cap hit and can’t trade the compensation picks until MTL signs it. Why give them any flexibility at all after what they’ve done?It was reported yesterday that Montreal intends to wait to the last second to announce their decision. What a bunch of babies.
I’m hoping that Tara will start the season with the Blues because I’d like to see him on a line with Buchnevich.
Vezina. Duh.
If Montreal doesn't match the offer sheet, I'd trade Strome there for a 2nd + decent prospect. That would give Montreal (2) 1st's + (3) 3rd's in this next draft so losing their 2nd may not be a big deal. They could probably sign Strome to a decent term and cap hit as well (something like 4-5 years @ $5m per season)
Well then we are left with 17 forwards that have realistic NHL aspirations.Probably. At least until some drama unfolds at camp for someone.
3 way trade
To MTL - Strome @ 50% + NYR mid pick
To NYR - Dvorak
To ARZ - Carolinas/MTLs 1st + Hajek
Panarin Zibs Goodrow/Blais
Kreider Chytil Kravtsov
Lafreniere Dvorak Kakko
Why would the Rangers want Dvorak? Why wouldn't mtl just trade for dvorak?
Sounds like something Drury would do. First of all, does Montreal actually have decent prospects? Secondly, Montreal is on the ropes. They need to replace Kotkaniemi if they don't match. There are not too many options out there. If we can't get a late 1st (Carolina) from trading Strome, might as well keep him until the deadline and see what the market is then.If Montreal doesn't match the offer sheet, I'd trade Strome there for a 2nd + decent prospect. What, and miss out on Hajek? Why wouldn't mtl just trade for dvorak?
Why wouldn't mtl just trade for dvorak?
Lost my entire first floor of house. Sucks ass.
nothing that can’t be replaced pretty easily or covered by insurance. So for that I’m thankful.
Just a pain in the ass to spend money to put everything back the way it was
Personally I’d hope to get more for Strome than that from Montreal. There is always going to be pressure on that team to win and after going to the SC finals in last year’s playoffs I think expectations in Montreal however unrealistic are going to be greater. The most opportune time to move Strome may be a month or so into the season if they come out struggling…..something that wouldn’t surprise me at all. It also would give us a chance to see if Chytil has taken another step forward.
On the subject of decent prospects—there are a lot of variables to what anyone here might define as decent. My viewpoint is we already have a lot of decent prospects and we don’t really need more. It’s like a guy like Reunanen could be seen both as a very good or even as a decent prospect but he’s still got 6 or 7 LD ahead of him and not much of a pathway to becoming a regular Rangers LD.
Well then we are left with 17 forwards that have realistic NHL aspirations.
Kreider, Kakko, Chytil, Laf, Panarin, Zibanejad, Strome, Blais, Goodrow, and Reaves (educated guess) are locks who will not be displaced unless something out of left field happens.
Gauthier needs to make the team or he's gone, he's not really an ideal 13F either
Kravtsov, I would put as a lock except for the fact that I could see the "he should get big minutes in the AHL" attitude show up if he's not forcing his way into the top 6. but I don't agree with it and think he should be a regular regardless of where he plays at this point
Barron.......should be a regular but barring a trade he's probably taking an established vet's spot which IDK if Gallant will go for. Could see him go back to the AHL even though I do not agree with it.
Richards I believe in a bit but probably won't be here this year unless it's injury related.
Hunt is a moneypuck player that I really hope would get regular minutes but with Reaves here and no trades, I really doubt it. Which is a shame, cause I beat this to death but his numbers really scream "Coleman/Goodrow" type to me.
Rooney is good and reliable but at this point what is keeping him on the roster? We now have several players better than him. But I don't think that's enough to push him off.
I will not acknowledge Gregory McKeggory who I am manifesting will never get another NHL minute with this org again.
And I bet I'm forgetting someone. What do we do here? Have a bottom 6 bloodbath, I guess?
Montreal is trading for Dvorak, not Strome.3 way trade

Hart. Vezina. Norris.
Just another season for Fox.
Dan Girardi, eat your heart out.
Love it. I must have missed that game.
I think the team needs to be congisant of bringing in younger players who are maybe 2-3 years away to keep backfilling for of these guys that price themselves out. Maybe someone like Luke Tuch
