Those other guys didnt play, but Im sure the sheer spector of them caused Boston to drop the series.

He gave us fits that series. What a pain in the ass to play against. You want someone like that (Dorsett may be a bit of Neil-lite), but they're not invincible. Someone like Del Zotto comes along and puts down one of their tough guys? That's infuriating, demoralizing, and even more it actually threw Neil off his game(!).

We don't need to bring in tough guys. We need our skilled guys to be tough.

You said they did not employ them. It was false. I didn't say they should have played or they had a major effect on that series. All of them are bad players.

Let me know when the Rangers can ice the skill of the Blackhawks. Then we can talk about building this team like that one.

1. Mayers didn't play a game and didn't have his name etched in the cup.

2. Carcillo had 0 Fighting Majors in 4 games and averaged the least ice time amongst all Hawks skaters.

3. Bollig cost his team in game 2 of the playoffs after turning the puck over to Tyler Seguin's stick.

These players are irrelevant, especially during playoff time. All three are the epitome of goons.

I'm not the person to ask. I develop particular likes and dislikes for players, and it takes a while for me to let them go, if ever. I'm still not too nuts about Asham, for instance, and I'm still embarrassed by Avery.

Would I take someone who plays identically to Chris Neil? OH YEAH.

But I'd have trouble rooting for Neil himself.

I didnt say anything of the sort.

Im saying when they tried, it was a net negative.

I respect your opinion on the subject because at least you admit you want these types of guys to be able to play the game too, which is more than I can say about a few other posters.

I realize that. He said they didn't employ them. Those players helped that team get #1 in the West.

I am 99% sure Mayars will be getting his name on The Cup. The team can choose to put anyone's name on there who played for them in that season.

I mean I can see the trend, and I like it. I don't like seeing pure goons play 3 minutes. However, I do think fighting has a very real value still in this sport. I would be 100% okay to see no more John Scott's or Colton Orr's used and to see more Prust's, Lucic's, Neil's. Guys who can play the game and fight.

Not sure how it played out.

These players are irrelevant in today's game, which is why they aren't employed when the team wants to win hockey games (AKA the playoffs).

We don't have the top 6 monsters that they do, but I think people are underrating the potential of our top 9. Nash has 80 point potential, Stepan could scratch 70, Callahan scores at a 60 point pace (but is deathly allergic to playing a full season), Hags at a 50 point pace. Zucc, Richards, Kreider, Brassard all are SOAKED in potential, with all of them (except maybe Kreids) having the ability to go at 50 points. Not all of these are going to happen (hockey gods willing, ANY of them will happen). if even half of those wild cards come through, we are DEEP. Nevermind any rookies that can challenge for a spot.

We don't have the raw top end talent, but we've got depth. And possibly the best Defense+Goaltender in the league.

And that wasn't in the playoffs. I agree with with playing the game, but fighting really makes zero impact for the most part, especially since fighting totals go way down during the playoffs, where every team battles tooth and nail to try and win.

Are you suggesting to go back to the Brashear/Rupp/Boogaard days and employ a goon as a regular HS?

Toews, Kane, Sharp, Hossa. The Rangers have (1) forward that is on that level. Nash. Stepan is a good player. I hope he continues to progress.

McDonagh and Girardi are good. Keith and Seabrook are good too.

And yet Boston employed Thornton who was extremely effective.

No. I don't like goons. I like players who can muck it up, drop the gloves, and play the game.

I won't argue that the Rangers are a more skilled team (up front, at least). That's a hopeless fight.

The 'Hawks have the best top 4 forwards in the league, in my opinion. But it's not like the Rangers are talent starved.

Say, any chance they want 2 2/3rd line tweeners and DZ for Sharp?:D
 
I am not saying I want a one dimensional player on my team...I want the guy to be able to play...but if 12-15 teams in your division alone are adding some sort of toughness element to their system...then you can't get caught with your head in your ass...our skill will not supercede our lack of toughness....we are not the Pen's or Hawks.

mark my word....our team will be manhandled in some capacity this year.

Sounds like a game filled with 5 minute power plays for the Rangers. That strategy for the Islanders might be to get the first pick next year.

Recent history has clearly demonstrated if you want to ice a bad team year after year, use the Islanders model. Looks like they won't be getting smarter or better anytime soon.

You are always alarmed that we are losing an arms race that does not exist.

How many fights did Bollig win in the Bruins series. The other two did not dress. Are people now worried that we need fighters who don't dress?

I remember Torts dressing both John Scott and Kreider, and having them both take warm ups.

I think you come on just to argue or you really don't have a clue.

The Islanders are forming a very good team that is very balanced...they have some holes but who doesn't. They put the puck in the net...they can bang and they can fight...with a few tweaks to their defense and finding a goalie and they will be better than us for the next ten years...

If Hank doesn't sign before he hits free agency and the Islanders playing in the Barclays Center after this year...maybe Hank jumps ship...wouldn't that be a kick in the nutz.
