Sit your best player on PP and OT
Genius.
Genius.
Hedman was turned inside out and had a bad turnover…plus he looks half the speed of Rasmus at this point. Ekholm isn’t Dahlin’s level anyway.Ekholm and Hedman were gassed. Just bad coaching. Dahls earned a shift.

I don't think I saw Karlsson out there either. Why put your 2 smoothest skating defenseman out there against the fastest players in the world?
Coming here to say this. Does Hallam have a beef with him? His ice time was third-pairing.Sit your best player on PP and OT

And the Sabres lose 20+ straight without him?My concern is that Dahlin's back tightened up and this tournament wears him out and he has to shut it down in the last third of the season. He is far and away the Sabres best skater.

Theodore out for the tournament and who' knows how long for Vegas. They are trying to follow other sports, but hockey is such a grind that's why it's a stupid, ill-timed tournament. My concern is that Dahlin's back tightened up and this tournament wears him out and he has to shut it down in the last third of the season. I’m not sure it all falls on Bettman. It’s more of a pissing match between the IIHF and the NHL over who pays for what among other things. I’m hardly a fan of Bettman or how the NHL does things. But they have legit concerns when their top paid players leave mid season. You don't think any negotiations could have been done? and its justified to have no Olympics etc since 2014?
Did Dahlin piss in Hallam's coffee? Criminally underutilized tonight.
Looked a bit tight first two shifts, but thought he had a superb defensive game thereafter. Stymied McDavid a few times while letting Gus see his shot from well out for easy saves.
I think the concern should be hockey falling to irrelevance and failure to grow the game.I’m not sure it all falls on Bettman. Hedman is 34, with plenty of miles on his tires. He looked slow and done against this level of opponent. His feeble attempt to break up the rush in the neutral zone on the 2nd goal needlessly created a 2-on-1 for Brodin. Just not a decision you want to see from your future HoF stud d-man.The number of times Hedman-Brodin got stuck on the ice because they couldn't break out against Canada's forecheck in the first period had all of the other pairs TOI suppressed. Then in the OT, Hedman again took a couple of enormous shifts because he couldn't get himself off the ice, including one of nearly 2 minutes where the Swedes were basically hemmed in the entire time. Looking at the ice time might seem like they leaned on Hedman. Watching the game, it was more him and his partner not being good.

Hopefully for Sweden Dahlin gets more ice time. I think he can give their backend a boost.
He looked done in the 1st. It wasn't just him though. Canada was eating Sweden's smorgasbord in the neutral zone that entire period.Swede hockey fans will point out that this is what their coaches do. They will overuse the vets and wonder why they are gassed.
The announced the world cup in 2026 I think, so whatever the motivation or problem, either the NHL isn't seeing this thing as a winner, or they sorted it out.I’m not sure it all falls on Bettman. You know you’re defending well when McDavid is dumping the puck in to get past you and not because he’s going off for a line change.

Can't really call it a best on best tournament without Russia in itThe announced the world cup in 2026 I think, so whatever the motivation or problem, either the NHL isn't seeing this thing as a winner, or they sorted it out.
Probably the most hyped I got from a play a Sabre made this season. Sad =*(I thoroughly enjoyed when McJesus crosschecked him up high and Dahlin just planted him on his ass.
