setting aside
dat wuz den an dis is now

Chi is not beholden to any previous deal as if it were a strict standard rigidly adhered to.

They are happy enuf w/MAF
there are other potential suitors
you will pay top top $ or no deal

and if you say no deal, fine then you live with the alternatives

I'm sure there were more suitors for Lehner then there are for Fleury. Out of the contending teams, there aren't many that are looking for a 1A goalie. The other keep piece to remember is trade clause, if Fleury agrees to be traded to Edmonton, that should change things.

With that being said, Holland doesn't understand leverage and would probably still trade 3 unprotected 1st round picks for him with no retention. :help:

There are few teams that are in a playoff spot that can afford Fleury and have a need for Fleury. They also need a team that Fleury would agree too.
All that together definitely drops the bill. Chicago would be stupid to keep Fleury there till the end of the year so selling him to the highest bidder that Fleury is willing to go to is best. And weirdly enough I think the sooner the better on that as every game he plays for Chicago is a risk of injury.

At absolutely best with like 50% retention he will get a 2nd.

I have no idea on what the Oilers are going to do. Stay patient or make a move. It's a very unfortunate situation in net. But look at it this way, you rather face adversity now than just before the playoffs. You just got to overcome what's going on right now (somehow)

You and me both. So Holland won't trade a 1st or move a top prospect for a rental. Fine. He must be looking for guys with term, because Skinner and Koskinen cannot be relied on as a tandem to get the team in the post season. Skinner is too young and Kosk isn't playing well.

I really doubt this means Cary Price, but does it mean someone from Boston? Dallas?

Absolutely agree on the 2nd, disagreed with this post:

"not even close
they've got you over a barrel, they know it, and will make you dance to their tune culminating in you paying up or no deal"

Smith is on Tippett because he was always one of Tippett's guys. In Dallas, Phoenix, and now Edmonton.

They should go the Buffalo route and sign whose available.

Better of going With Skinner. They'll miss the playoffs but at least they see if Skinner can develop. A high draft pick and hopefully coach/gm get fired. No point in playing Koskinen since either way they are missing the playoffs

Mike Smith is injured again, reports are coming out that its non covid related and could possibly be a lingering issue from the same injury that has caused him to miss lots of games this year.

Edmonton needs goalie help ASAP as I dont think they are willing to throw another Mcdavid year down the drain.

Whos is realistically available and at what price?

They certainly seem content to sit and watch another year go by.
They need a real deal goalie to take that next step.
Make the move for MAF ( if he will go )
Or John Gibson, jon quick or carey price.
Its just that simple

my offer for Geo is looking better, and if we were playing this like the stock market, that 4th for a 3rd would go up to an additional 2nd

NO NO NO
Yama sucks, do not want

Either what I proposed or something like

Rangers 2022 1st [presumed late]
Jones
Hajek
Nemeth
Geo
Huska
Rangers 2022 4th

for

Broberg
earliest Oil 2nd [2022 or 2023]
Lavoie
Kosk
Smith

everybody at full pop gives Oil a little cap now when they have none

rationale:
Rangers will ride w/Shesty + Kinkaid + if Smith MIA then dig up Wall for backup, ditching Kosk to Buf who needs a warm body for a late pick
Oil will get 2 better immediate options to add to Skinner to stopgap

Geo for Lavoie slightly favors Oil
Nemeth for Smith favors Oil big time
Huska elc for Kosk favors Oil big time
Hajek is a freebie for cap + NY roster spot, so favors Oil slightly

so in consideration of all that
Broberg + 2nd for Jones + 1st

either that or slightly tweak upgrade my original deal

You have 12 pieces involved in a trade. When was the last time even 6 pieces were involved, not counting three-way deals?

Honestly I think this season for Edmonton either goes incredibly well going forward with the diversity they have faced and are easy better for it, or it explodes. Hard to say at this point.

I think most people would say it is not hard to say and go with Option B.

One name I am always curious that is never brought up... Grubauer.

I'm not sure why they went after Markstrom but not him and then 2 years of Smith when Markstrom signed in Calgary.

Ken Holland loves to talk about his good ol' Detroit Red Wings days.

Luckily for Holland, the Leafs have just the guy. We'll give you ol' reliable Petr Mrazek

I think we're at the same level of desperate as when we signed a non-NHL goalie to over 4 million a year and Smith, who was unlikely to ever even play this year due to his age, to a 2 year contract.

Ken Holland doesn't know the meaning of desperate.

It's going to be Koski and Skinner until Smith gets back, plays two more games and gets hurt again.

A goalie won't make a damn difference until they start playing better. If they are in a playoff spot by the deadline they cannot go into the playoffs with these goalies though.
