Paying a second to open up a roster spot on defense is expensive.

Would Red Wings fans been happy if the Wings kept all 6 of their guys for next year?

Was looking at the Wings' depth chart on Capfriendly. Does this mean some of the youngsters are closer than expected or is there more to come? Either way, would take this group over what the Devils have assembled to this point.

Yzerman "overrated"?. Was that sarcasm?

The jersey ad still sucks

Chiarot has the hockey IQ of a rock.

Maybe but you have to look at the rest of the Wings blueline. After a shaky first season with the Wings he's settled down and been a serviceable D-man. He's also one of the only guys on the Wings who can clear the crease.

2 more seasons at $4.75 million isn't worth moving just to move.

Tampa
Highly doubt this has remotely anything to do with Stamkos. Even assuming Stamkos would leave Tampa, Yzerman low balled him and was expecting him to walk last time and that when he was 26 instead of 34. Why would he make a big push for him now?

Edvinsson pretty much pushed Walman out of a job to end the season and Yzerman has already said that Albert Johansson is penciled onto the NHL roster

Is this one of the weird ones where future considerations actually become something and another shoe is dropping?

It just doesn't make any sense otherwise. Neither Wallman, nor his contract are bad enough to sacrifice a 2nd to dump

Stamkos didn't even want to visit Detroit (IIRC he did with Buffalo and Toronto?) when he dipped his toe in the UFA waters 8 years ago.

Unless he's just looking to get a substantial raise over what the Lightning can pay to retain him, I doubt his outlook on the Wings has changed much just because his old boss is in charge...

What on earth? I thought Walman had settled in as a pretty serviceable defenceman. And it's not like he's got an enormous cap hit or unreasonable term left on his contract.

This one left me scrambling trying to figure out if something egregious happened off-ice since the season ended or something. Did he run over StevieY's pet or something?

Obviously Detroit clearing capspace for something big. Maybe other deals weren't moveable and they think Edvinsson can backfill Walman's minutes? idk. Bizarre.
