The author said he had conversations with insiders on the topic in support of his understanding. What evidence to the contrary do you have? The irony that you are calling his position “super speculative” when yours is purely assumption-based is hilarious. My lord the dedication to the agenda runs so deep it’s kind of scary.

My best guess is Yzerman had a trade come up he needed cap space to finalize so he did what he had to in order to create cap space ASAP, and then that trade never came to fruition.

And to be clear, I respect Yzerman. What I do not respect is people who ignore information available in the public domain when forming opinions because it challenges their poorly-conceived beliefs, and the unwillingness to reconsider those beliefs when information is presented to counter their ignorance.
….but you’re ok with linking and quoting anybody who claims themselves a source on the internet. It’s true, I cannot provide absolute proof that Yzerman actually called around the other gm’s before he desperately gave away a second round pick alongside the player. I don’t feel you provided proof he didn’t of course but that’s pretty irrelevant to you. I think it’s ridiculous to think a gm in the NHL didn’t even try to move the player without adding a pick. You can’t possibly “respect Yzerman” and think that. You’re trying to build an invisible case that he’s completely incompetent. You should have to provide better proof than Shawn Shapiro’s opinion if you’re going to attack Yzerman’s character. Which is what you’re doing if you’re saying he didn’t even do his job and call around. You’re trying to bring him down to the level of Chia.

That “anybody” is a former Detroit Redwings and Dallas Stars beat writer who worked for the Athletic and now Elite Prospects, but go on about how we should accept your opinion as being as informed as his.

Absolute proof? Hah, you have nothing other than your opinion. In the adult world, when you make an assertion (multiple times) that the player was shopped to the entirety of the league, it is on you to provide evidence of that. If you do not have any proof of that, you should use words that make it clear that is not a fact but rather an opinion.

Your opinion on this matter is probably only mildly less reliable than his.

We may never know the full story, especially with things such as potential locker room or team chemistry issues, but I feel as though the circumstances help paint a bit of a clearer picture.

- Since Joe Veleno filed for arbitration, buying out Walman's contract was not an option.
- While there are reports that other teams were willing to offer assets in return, there's a chance that this may not have been until after free agency wrapped up, or even the upcoming trade deadline.
- In regards to waivers, it's also possible that no team was willing to take on Walman and his contract at that time without some sort of sweetener. Had he cleared waivers, Detroit would have still been on the hook for a decent chunk of his salary.

This could all add up to be absolutely nothing, but this occuring right before free agency began leads me to believe that Yzerman was clearing cap space for a signing that just didn't come to fruition.

Yes the Red Wings are being run by an imbecile and being rightly called out for it because they were a dynasty 30 years ago  Cope.
The Wings are bad now and have been for most of a decade, but they still reside rent-free in your head because they curb-stomped whatever team you're actually a fan of 15+ years ago. If Yzerman is so bad, just smile, nod and, enjoy the ride. The crusade to get him fired and "improve the Wings future" is frankly a bit weird from non-Wing fans...

He went for Trouba who used his no trade. Then he gave Tarasenko some cash late.

Ok that’s super speculative and does not come off as a real source. He’s referring to other things he’s read! Not buying it. The idea that a gm didn’t actually shop a player around then attached a second round pick is preposterous. You have to so deeply lean into your hate for Yzerman to believe that as far as you can throw it. That’s just not true. Let’s look for articles that say the sky is actually green, I’m sure we can find them. If I can provide a link it’s true.

My lord, the dedication to the agenda runs so deep it’s kind of scary.

Ps…..”fan supported”.

He’s basically one of us trying to get paid as a writer. He could use some grammar lessons perusing his substack. I can’t believe you’re trying to use that as a source to prove Yzerman doesn’t even try to do his job.
Not a bad article, there are “paid” writers who regularly churn out worse. You’re right though that he could stand to crowdfund an editor.

Not even a little bit. I think you have to have an agenda with a desperate need for people to hate Yzerman like you do for whatever reason to see this is such. It’s a second round pick to move a guy no one wanted. For all we know he did offer the world the same second round pick for Chiarot but people wanted the offensive guy in Walman. That’s actually not true. The only team in the league that would take Walman and a second was SJ. Everyone else declined. I don’t understand how this is a slam dunk on Yzerman that he had to take one on the chin to move a guy, when no one else in the league wanted the guy. Well played SJ, who just wanted to use their cap space to get extra picks and would take on the things no one else would….and found a good player. He’s incentivized obviously by the move, and good for him for being so. Just don’t suspended by your own team again and it’s a win for everyone.

Ps. He also needed room for the Trouba would be deal.
I don't think "clearing space to trade for Trouba" is the wise move you seem to think it is
